Since its a Gatwick operation, I would put my money on it being a 744.

but in the quiet months the baby bus was used A340-300 . And it depends on the Government of the country as now there is more compitition on the small island . For the Cape town route , Virgin is not allowed to fly there 747's aircraft due to govermant restrictions as they have to look after SAA . But British Airways can fly 747's as they have a special agreement with SAA/Government .
I didn't realise that - I've never seen the buses used at EGKK! Seems a tad unfair to me about the aircraft types allowed by various carriers! I guess the SAA Government is looking after its own. Does every nation do this to benefit its own carriers?

Cheers for the info

When I was with VS on exchange from Australia (all of 2005 basically) I operated on the B744 to CPT more than once...

I'm afraid BA CLASSICs info is incorrect and sorely out of date.
