Jetstar CC help!

This is my first post so bare with me. My wife and I are Aussies that used to work as cabin crew with GB out of Gatwick. We have now returned down under and my wife has applied for Jetstar in Melbourne. Our main problem is she is only 159cm and the limit in most airlines in Australia, including Jetstar is 163cm, if I recall correctly. Is there any Jetstar people out there that can tell me if we are wasting our time, or is this limit flexible. I don't understand how she is capable of operating the A320's and A321's in England but not in Australia with Jetstar.

I knew of a girl in Hobart Base that was under the 163cm... She did some additional cabin sim testing to see if she could reach the lockers and got through....

As Jetstar adhere to Qantas regulations it could be a tough one.... Iwould just do it and see how you go

Sorry I couldn't be more help

That's definitely a tough one.

I am a former QANTAS girl and I am exactly 164cm, just 1cm over the 163cm minimum height and it was a big issue. They measured us all in a great big long line and as I followed a couple of 5'10"+ girls I am sure I looked like the resident midget - lol. However, I did pass the height test, but the recruiter measuring me made a point of saying "oooh, only JUST!! You are very lucky", and then measured me again paying particular attention to if my feet (I guess to see if I was tip-toeing etc). A few candidates after me another girl who was also smaller in stature was measured. She was under the height requirement by 3cm and was turned away right there and then and told her "application would not go any further". I remember it distinctly as the young lady in question had travelled from the South Island of NZ for the interview; and to not make it past the height check must have been devestating (financially and emotionally).

I believe that Jetstar (going under QF rules and regs) would have same standards. However, I know Freedom Air in NZ doesn't have a specific height requirement - just a reach test (I think all airlines should have this! If you are tall enough to reach the Emergency Equipment in all areas - then you are tall anough to operate in my opinion).

A friend of mine is 156cm and worked for a smaller airline in Australia and then in NZ on Origin Pacific, so it may to shop around for airlines with smaller aircraft.

Alternatively, be completely upfront with Jetstar, write to the them stating your wife's height, that she is more than happy to do a reach test and formally operated on A320s and hopefully they will make an exception. Esp with her awesome wealth of experience!!

Good luck and let us know how it goes ... and welcome back Down Under

I know someone who went through to practical assessment, but then I know another person who was told 'sorry, too short' and wasnt offered the practical. Its not a hard and fast rule as some crew who were employeed by Impulse pre-QF link days are still with us and well under the height requirement.

HI Maxi,

Maybe your wife should put an application in with Virgin too. I make the height limit by 1cm, yet there are many crew who are much shorter than me. And (if it hasn't changed in the last four years), we didn't get measured until the medical stage of the interview process. So you at least get a chance to show what a fantastic crew member you would make before they give you the "sorry too short" excuse.

blonde - the 183cm rule is enforced by the QF Group - mainly because if you ever have to work on a 737 classic, you'd knock yourself out on the asile TV's if you were any taller.

I'm exactly 182.5cm and worked on 733's, my hair use to scrape the bottom of the screens!

Cheers,

overhere- thanks for the info, my friend measured me and he said I was 187 then I just measured myself and I got 177 so it might not be a problem anyway... either way one of us cant measure. Maybe if I keep measuring myself I'll keep getting shorter...

Dearest Maxi's

Like "Smile", I too know of girls at Virgin who are under the height requirements - one in particular who is way under. She was asked to do a reach test and passed. She had prevoius flying experience, as you both do, extremely friendly with a fantastic personality - I am sure she won the interviewers over.

So if you can get passed the initial screening and win them over with your prev. experience and great cust. service stories you may be O.K.

Keep us up to date.
