Easy MXP base
Hello one and all,
I understand that EasyJet may be opening a base at MXP. I have a mate who is thinking about applying.
Does anyone have any thoughts on them. Pros or Cons??
Thanks in advance.

That's true.
easyJet will be flying out of MXP from March 06.
Some internal applications have been received (Base Cabin Crew Manager, Cabin Crew and pilots) to transfer down there.
I guess they will need some external applicants as well.
The contract as a CC will be a UK one which is not a bad thing... You work hard but it's still an enjoyable experience.

As far as I remember when EZ launched the ORY base, we all have been told that the contracts were a "french one". Damn, what a mess, indeed! So everybody signed a UK contract. As a CC working under a UK contract whilst living abroad, after each tx year, you can get your tax back through the Tax Refund process... Well if you can get an Italian contract, why not, but please check again all details like basic salary, sector etc... EZ is always trying to cut down the costs so, i would not be surprised to see new contracts with new conditions... Have a look carefully!
Cheers,

Well dxman we've been told that they're renegotiating tha ocntract and wanted to put down the basic for 120 euro. we (me and the all other applicants) didn't understand why in all other european bases the contract was a uk one (so for everybody the same) and for Milan it had to change!!! it is also a very expensive city just like London a Paris. Now have also been informed that they asked people in England to be based in Milan from two to four months with night allowance pay and accomodation given just a nice opportunity to experience a new countru and earn some extra money. To assest the base has this happened as weel for paris' base? I would like to ask u something. But i prefer on email so i send u my email on private with the question and u emaikl me back ok? thank u though and let's keep in touch

There are NO temporary transfers to MXP from UK based crew. All permanent moves, therefore NO nightstop or accom allowances. Not heard anything about new contracts so can't give you info on this.

1. Accommodation plus standard night stop pay including rostered days off.
or:
2. £600 before tax plus basic pay and night stop. (In other words you would have to used the £600 to find somewhere to live)
They will position you out there the the start of the transfer, and home at the end of it. But not for rostered days off or annual leave.
The email hasn't been send to Luton crew as far as I'm aware, probably because they aren't an airbus base.

Last year, when i joined ORY, we used to have some UK crew based temporarily... Usually 6 months. They all had hude allowance besides their salaries to help to pay for food etc.
Apparently, that was a real good deal for them ;-)
BTW, I'm not under contract anymore with EZ UK so I can't get any more news about all those transfers!

MXP temp transfers
London crews were sent the email offering temporary transfers. Minimum is 2 months, up to 4 months with 4 months being the current "likely" stay there for UK crews.

They work the crew VERY VERY hard and with 20 minute turnarounds/minimum crew and minimum rest daily it can become very fatiguing. There are also no nightstops and regular roster disruption.
However, the crew are such a great buch of hardworking, dedictated and loyal people who really do make the airline. And the money is good too! (Just dont work it out as an hourly rate!)

Guys MXP area can be very expensive. Don't think it's Milan as it takes one hour to get to Milan centre. It's closer to Varese and the Lake, that's why it's so expensive. Also it's Alitalia's main base and there are many charter airlines based there too so accomodation is expensive (ppl think that cabin crew swim in gold!).
Gallarate, Somma and other smaller towns are very close to the airport but I remember when I was based there we were paying 1,000 Euros + bills for a one bed apartment in the outskirts of Gallarate. I was renting it with another 3 guys. We were all flying long haul so I had the flat pretty much for myself most of the time I was there, so it wasn't really a problem. For short haul operations it might have been different though!
It's a grey area in the winter (lots of fog) and it's extremely hot and humid in the summer, with LOTS of mosquitoes.
One thing to keep in mind is public transport to and from the airport is nothing like the major UK hubs. You really need a car. The only train that links MXP to Milan (Cadorna) is the MXP express. Then there are buses every 20mins thoughout the day from Milan Central train station via Fiera, and the journey can take between 50 to 90 minutes. Lately I missed a couple of flights thanks to that!(thank god I was on a sby ticket)
Gallarate is on the Milan Porta Garibaldi line (secondary line) and is linked with MXP with a local bus a few times a day but I never took it as it's the most unreliable thing in the world.
Taxis are VERY expensive and the Italians don't use them regularly for this reason.
There's another solution to that which is to get a room in Case Nuove, but unless you want to be woken up by some cargo DC10 taking off over your head (literally) at 3am every day and your favourite perfume is JetA1, maybe it's not a good idea.
Having said that, I know nothing about EZY or their contract, but if they give you an accomodation while on a transfer I would probably take it. Rent+bills+food+transport can become really expensive in the heart of the Padania valley. Also most airlines consider MXP/LIN/BGY as one base....wouldn't be surprised to see that coming soon to EZY as well to cut costs.
Good luck and if you need any help with your italian, pm me!!!
Ciao
