Talking National Jet-NJS

Anyone been to a National Jet Interview recently? Would really appreciate any advice on what to expect.

Also if any National Jet crew are on pprune, would you please let me know what the pay and conditions are like.

Thanks Heaps,

Hey Steve....

Yeah I had an interview with National Jet on the 26th July....and they called me on the 27th, telling me that I had got the job. ..VERY QUICK. It was a great atmosphere...three interviewers...Jacinta, Adelle and Alice. They were all lovely and make you feel very relaxed. Went for bout an hour or just over an hour actually. Didn't really feel like an interview......we would just chat for a bit and then Jacinta would ask me another question which jolted me that I was actually in an interview...lol. Alice and Adelle tend to write most of the time....but they will ask questions if they need anymore info and will also join in the convo at times.

I am originally from Melbourne aswell.....however I am currently working for Emirates and am living in Dubai. My interview was in Adelaide, so I am guessing that that is where yours is aswell...??

Ok...so here is what I can remember:

Try and get there about 10mins early because you will be asked to write an essay on why you think that you should be employed by National Jet Systems.

"Tell us about yourself?"

"What do you know about the company?"

"Tell us about your customer service experience?"

"Have you ever had to deal with a difficult passenger/customer? How did you deal with this?"

"How do you treat different nationalities?"

"How do you deal with non-english speaking passsengers?"

"How do you feel about moving?"

"Are your references still the same? Can we call them?"

"Have you applied to any other airlines?"

"How do you feel about being at the very bottom of a seniority list and having no say over your roster for the first few years of flying?"

"Can you give an example of a time when you have had conflict with a colleague and how you dealt with it?"

* WAS ALSO SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS:

"Have you ever been in charge of a team?"

Just try and relax buddy....these ladies are wonderful, they are so genuine and down to earth...no funny stuff.....they want to get to know the real you, so they will try and make you as comfortable as possible.

Good luck and be sure to let me know how you go.

Oh.....and they also asked me which base I would prefer to live at: Perth, Darwin or Cairns? Adelaide is a very small base...so there are were no positions available. They said that they will try to get you the base that you want...no promises though.

GS should be before the end of this year.....maybe one in OCT and one in NOV.....not sure yet, will get my contract hopefully by tomorrow.

And also......just one more thing......the first year is more than likely flying Charter (BAe 146's & Dash 8's) and then you may have an opportunity to move across to the QFlink/Airlink flying.....on the 717's and 146's.

Hope this has helped....

Hi there!

May be a little ignorant of me, but do the guys flying on the QFLink contract, do they have any sort of career progression to Qantas mainline?

Also...

EKcrew, if you don't mind me asking, why have you chosen to leave Emirates with so many people trying to get in like any big airline?

Hi all,

I was an ops controller for them, (Airlink days) .. the spread of bases has certainly changed since my time, but the ADL base has never been for Qantaslink. That is where HQ is, also the LADS contract, the Surveillance Australia head office and of course where Ops is based.

Both ADL and PER bases support the charter side of Ops, and I believe that the DWN chtr base is now closed, supporting only the 'link and coastwatch flying.

Great mob to work for, never had too many complaints re the flying, certainly from the DWN and CNS staff point of view - good overnight bases ..!!

good luck and happy flying with them.

Congrats EKCREW,

bugger... to think I could have been joining you guys!!

I'm guessing then that the Perth base isn't on high demand, if CNS and Darwin have that earning potential....

I've heard that most start out on charter then move on to Qantaslink... except a lucky few who may go right into QFlink.... not sure I'd like doing that as bound to piss people off.... but anyway....

OZ, I believe the progression from NJS/QFlink to mailine has been discussed here before, I don't know the exact details but a search should turn up the info you want...

Oz.....Haven't decided what I am going to do yet...still trying to weigh up my options. Its not that I WANT to leave Emirates, I mean I LOVE my job, but sometimes where you live can have such a huge impact on your happiness. My man is still in oz and my family of course.....and this job can be so lonely sometimes....I really miss Australia and well......lots of other reasons!!

Let me just say that the grass is not ALWAYS greener.

NJS advertised for flight attendants on the seek website, here's the link:
http://www.seek.com.au/users/apply/i...4080&Keywords=
if that doesn't work just go to www.seek.com.au, then under location click Perth, and sub classification airlines/aviation.

Does anyone know how many positions they're hiring for?

Don't know exactly how many they're going to recruit, but the latest going around is that we're 50 cabin crew understaffed.
Wouldn't surprise me - we're all working incredibly hard at the moment. Our rosters are being constantly changed, we're being drafted to work our RDO's, asked to sign dispensations to work over hours. It's a bit of a nightmare. We need new crew DESPERATELY!
It's not so bad there when there are enough crew to cover the flying.
Help us out and apply for goodness sake!!
Please. I'm begging you! I want my life back!!!

Cart_tart.....are you able to clarify or give any further info on the salary? Sorry, I know that it is not something that people like to discuss, but unfortunately it is information that one requires when considering a job offer. Do the figures that CaptHairDryer quoted sound accurate?

Please feel free to PM me if you wish. Any info would be greatly appreciated....thanks.

Hope work is not too busy and that you manage to get some time off soon.

Thanks for all the info... Just one more, I believe that most start out casual, has it taken long in the past to move to Full-Time with Qantas link? And whilst casual can you get many hours?

Thanks again...

CaptHairdryer was pretty much on the mark with the $. PER is probably a little more - especially at the moment with the ridiculous amount of work we are doing.
The last few years employment at NJS has been on fixed term contracts. They're heading towards casual now - they want people who can work whenever. Actually us full timer's seem to be on call 24/7 at the moment, but I think the casuals will be used to try and reduce the drafting on RDO's that we currently put up with.
I might be wrong, but I think that after 6 months the casuals will be made permanent.

Hi Guys
I am new to pprune and have never posted before - I have been employed with National Jet since April this year (the last ground school to go through) - I absolutely love it, the flying is great (I am with Charter in Perth), and I am full time staff, as far as I know they are only now just starting to think about employing casuals, it has all been full time up until now - I have never heard of any fixed term contracts ...... so not really sure what is going on there. As far as I know the casuals are for Qantaslink with the the introduction of the 717's - but I could be wrong. Anyway, just thought I would clarify that I have just started and I went straight onto full time, as did the other 18 of us in the ground school.

stillflying - prior to april, and going back a few years, everyone was employed on fixed term contracts. They were for a period of a year, then they got renewed for another year. After being on contract for 2 years the company put them all on full time. I'm not sure when the last time they employed fixed termers happened, but I can assure you that is how they employed for quite some time.

Hi!

If they are going to introduce casuals into Natl. Jet/QFLink, it will be interesting to see what the conditions/restrictions are etc, because at the moment MAM casuals flying mainline have a lot of restrictions placed on them due to their contract which makes it hard if they need to get a second job. In a way they're not really casual at all but permanent part time. At this stage casuals have to be available a minimum of 12 days a month, 3 of those days Qantas will stipulate. Apparently one of the new clauses in the new casual contract is that you also have to be available to work three weekends out of four in the month!

Permanent Full-Time

Hey guys,

Just to clarify... I just heard from NJS and they are offering me Permanent Full-Time. Not sure yet of the base, but they said that they have got clearance for the September ground school....but that I will probably go into the November one.

Hope that helps some of you....

Have a great weekend

Thanks Oz.....am looking at PER base. Don't wanna live in DWN, I may aswell stay in Dubai...the weather would be just a bad!!! And I've never been to CNS, but have heard that it is a bit of a crappy place to live. I love PER, have only been there on layovers with EK, but that was enough time to fall in love with the place.

Who do you fly for OZ?
