Re: Etihad routes+ lay overs

Hi All,

Just went for the assessment for Etihad. Decided to give it a try and see how it goes. And I have to say, they were most friendly and professional, all except for one lady who just pretty much sat there and sulked the whole day long.

Anyways, they've changed the methodology (if that's what you can call it) for their recruitment. Now, you are given a briefing first about the company. And I have to say that it is all very hyperbolic and glammed up. Earn a generous pay package! Generous benefits! Great accomodations! New destinations in the pipeline! Interestingly enough though, they did not for once at all mention about the pay or the allowances.

Moving on... 138 people showed up. And after the briefing, we were split into 2 groups. One did the assessment test (45 minutes) while the other group had their height and weight taken and a 1 minute interview with 3 recruitment personnel. Basically along the lines of what are you doing now, what languages you speak, scars or tattoos and finally make you turn your face to the left and right. They call this the 'grooming' section. I know, tee-hee.

The test itself was divided into 6 sections. Grammar, replace words in bold with the most suitable alternative provided, mathematical and general knowledge, comprehension, logic and a short essay writing. Honestly, it was the easiest 'test' I have ever sat for in my life! Apart from the comprehension and the essay writing (duh!), everything else was multiple choice.

And that was when the first round of elimination took place. Out of those who attended, only 20 (TWENTY!!!) made it thru. And mind you, this itself took from 8.30 - 2pm.

Short lunch break, then it was to the group assessment... two rounds of that. Blah blah blah... smile and pretend to know your stuff. Some more elimination and then it was down to the one on one interview.

Can I also just add that on the first day, only TWENTY people showed up for the assessment. I know, right??? The second day was only better because it was through a recruiting agency. Oh, and that was only because the agency had promised that Etihad's pay would be more generous than Qatar or Gulf (I think they said that, not sure).

Overall, the whole selection process was quite pathetic. I'm not saying this because I didn't make it but because it wasn't a very conducive environment. Yes, they were nice and friendly but that was about it.

That's how it went folks. And just for the record, a lot of the people who were selected might not sign on the dotted line when they get the contract because of how low the pay is. They are getting slightly less than what they are getting now at their airlines but for them, they do not have to uproot themselves to Abu Dhabi and be parted from their family. They would if they pay was much higher, as the agency had promised.

And a final note, this is getting ever so lenghty, the Etihad personnel was saying that they are looking for 'tip-top' (his words, not mine) for their cabin crew. So would anyone in Etihad care to confirm if that is indeed the case. That all cabin crew in there are 'tip-top'? Heh, I keed, I keed.

Its sad to see that since they need so many crew they are still painting a false picture for everyone and then being so picky...
As for tip top....those are leaving for greener and much nicer pastures.....
Has potential just nothing getting done about it.

Re: Etihad routes+ lay overs

tip top? never heard of such a thing!

in our interviews, we did not have one reference checked! ( im not kidding) nor did we have one psych test.......

as for crew on line, most are good, however i think they have certainly picked a lot that are not what they call "tip top"

and yes the tip top ones have left, are leaving, or are thinking about it. Maybe they should get the welfare co-ordinator involved to talk to them all.........pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!:m ad:

Re: Etihad routes+ lay overs

Just another point that I had forgotten to mention in my earlier post... the contract now is an open ended contract and no longer for the 3 years that they initially offered. My guess is that this is because too many people are leaving so this would make the job more enticing that it really is?

Re: Etihad routes+ lay overs

Gosh,

Sounds like a lot of bad news for us X QR people wanting to join EY. I was really looking forward to joining them this year.

I hope someone can really shed light on this topic. I do not want a redux of my QR experience.

I’m scared.

Re: Etihad routes+ lay overs

Believe me, you are marketable at least for the next 7 years. Over 1000 jet plane has been ordered so far by airlines worlwide. Don't be afraid to try out other places. The most important thing is, be satisfied with the offer before you scribble the dotted line and not what you can expect from them in the future. You are the one responsible to make yourself happy where ever you are and not hoping other people to bring the glory sunshine for you. If you're not happy, just leave if you can afford it and move on. If you have to stay, make the best out of it. Why torture yourself, you only live once. Yes, money is everything but not EVERYTHING. Happy flying guys... cheer up.... me getting a pint...

Re: Etihad routes+ lay overs

I read from another forum that immediately after the assessment in Kuala Lumpur, the Etihad team also stopped by in Singapore. About a hundred or so people showed up for that one and only 15 made it through the group discussion. Then they cut that number down some more but I'm not sure how many actually made it through.

All I can say is... WOW. They sure have an extremely high expectation of their recruits. Because I just cannot believe that only 15 made it through to the discussion round out of the 100 or so that showed up.

But I agree, the aviation industry is growing so there should be many more jobs available in the next months or so.
