Making an effort....
As a frequent flier, I've started to notice that some of you gals seem to be letting personal standards drop. Now I know that fast turnarounds, time zones etc can leave you, shall we say, a little jaded, but don't you think you ought to maybe play a little less hard, or perhaps set the alarm clock an hour earlier so you can at least attempt to look the part?
I pay good money for my ticket, and deserve to be looked after by good looking cabin crew, not girls who look like the've just got outta the sack.

I mean, c;mon, some of the guys on the flightdeck ain't exactly Calvin Klein models.... do you see us posting about it?
Oh right, I forgot, they make up for it with brains and intelligence...

It's true. FAs used to look glamorously well groomed in the old days, now that's not the case for everybody anymore.
And more's the pity.
I disagree with your follow up though!
Play less hard? Errmmm? Minimum rest is par for the course these days and doesn't leave a lot of time for play, hard or otherwise.
Set the alarm clock an hour ealier?
Sorry but that is really not an option. Minimum rest coupled with jetlag makes for continuously sleep deprived flight crew, both cockpit and cabin. We sleep til we get our wake-up call; the flight might after all be delayed and by setting your own alarm clock, you might be missing out on an extra hour. when coming form home, I DO agree with you; put your alarm clock early enough so you have time to shower and put on some make up.
You pay for good looking cabin crew do you? Where does it say that in your ticket then?
In the past, part of being an FA was looking good. In the past, part of being a passenger was paying through the nose for a ticket and behaving impeccably once on board.

Ticket prices have fallen dramatically, and many companies have lowered their standards across the board to be able to offer these cheap fares.
Perhaps harassed-looking overtired ungroomed FAs are a result of this as well?
A well groomed FA is easier on the eye than a just out of the sack one, indeed so. Far and away the vast majority of FAs take pride in their appearance, and manage to look fresh and polished at ungodly hours and after working inhuman shifts. As Lightchop says, he is only referring to SOME of us!

Although I don't agree with everything that Lightchop has pointed out, or the reasons why he's pointed it out, I agree with him on some levels.
I hate early duties. Always have, always will. And the amount of time I turn up for duty with female crewmembers who look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards...I've lost count!
Strangely enough, I've never had a problem with any of the guys. They all shave in the morning, all have their hair neat and tidy, they come to work with neat uniforms...and yet the girls (I should stress a MINORITY - yet they are growing) can't seem to get it together!
No makeup or hair done up, nothing! They look like stale old slices of toast!
I'm FOREVER having to pull them aside and say "Could you please put on some lipstick...etc?". Where I work, we have a grooming book that states very clearly what is, and isn't, acceptable...and in some cases, they just don't care!
Ironically, it is these same girls that often would kill to work for Emirates, Gulf, etc...airlines where you're SACKED for less!
As a purser, I find it VERY frustrating - it's not difficult, and I don't expect full on glamour at 5am! What I do expect is some PERSONAL PRIDE in YOUR OWN APPEARANCE!

When I watch these airline reality programmes we are constantly told how hard the recruitment programme is for cabin crew - only the very best manage to get through the training. Then when I see some - I repeat only some - of cabin crew on various airlines, reality does not match the sell.

As slf I couldn't give a dam about what the crew look like, smile at them they'll smile back.
They are after all the same as us in our work and don't like grumpy complaining arseholes, some people seem to think a ac is a hotel in the sky.
As a caveat to above ban all the prune faced been their done it old biddys who are trying to look attractive with trowel loads of makeup trying to hide their true sell by date, playing to the boys and trying to boost their ego.

I don't know how old you are (perhaps about 12 if your posts are anything to go by) but you should know that there are a few 'slightly older' (or old biddys to you) cabin crew who do a very good job and really don't deserve your disgusting comments about their looks.
Putting make-up on and making the best of oneself is a good thing and certainly does not deserve the horrible and derogatory comments you made.

Haha, so true paddyinuk!! I can remember when I was a child that mum would dress me up for flying with the shiny patent black shoes with white socks with the lacey tops and a new dress that we had bought in the city for at treat!! And you were expected to behave like a lady. Certainly NOT smash all your pringles up and through them on the floor or scribble all over your tray table with permanent pen. I didn't scream when I didn't want to put my seatbelt on nor not say thank you when served. I looked at the flighties in awe and would do anything they asked me. I would sit like a little lady in the golden wings club as the barman made my shirley temple. This was about 15 years ago and how times have changed...
