Virgin
Hi
I went for an interview with BMI in August and was successful, I am now waiting for a training date which is pretty annoying as no one can tell me when that might be apparently there are people waiting from May so it feels im gonna have a LONG wait!
Im 18, 19 on Dec 2nd, I really want to apply to Virgin but wanted to know if I could apply in a months time or so or do I have to wait until I am actually 19??
Im not holding out much hope for BMI at the moment as much as I would love to work for them, I just really want to get up in the air!
Thanks

Hi Lisa,
I would call VA on 0870 190 4403 and just explain the situation.
The process is normally:
Call above number and they ask your date of birth, if you can swim and a few basic details about education levels.
If they are happy with that they will send you an application form.
They are really nice to speak to so I would call them and just ask if they will send you an application pack now as its not long until you are 19. If they say they will send you an application pack then ask them if you should return it now or once you have reached 19.
Good luck and if you don't get into Virgin I have heard BMI are short of crew so fingers x'ed it won't be too long b4 you get a training date.
You will love flying I've done charter work mainly and really enjoyed it. At the moment I'm working for Qantas London base and its not so good. In fact I'm applying to Virgin myself.

I don't think VS will mind - it should be ok.
By the way, you do know that VS pay less than BMI? Its a great airline, but alot of people who work as crew complain its hard making ends meet. But, if your looking to do cabin crew short-term, then go for it - VS will be great! If you want to make a career, apply BA Heathrow. Probably not as fun as VS, but the pay is good and good career progression!
BA are recruiting as well.

Just had a look at the above wesite, and the starting salary is the same as Virgin
The basic salary is probably the same, but as you may know, its the allowances that really make the difference.
So for example, with BA shorthaul you end up with the following a year:
Basic: £10,213 pa
Allowances: approx £500 per month
So the approx total for a year: £16,213
You can also earn more than this with BA, depending on what flights you bid for. I don't think VS pay as much as this - and thats longhaul!
