bmi - to strike or not to strike?
What is happening at bmi. Are we going to vote for a strike or not?
Are there any bmi crew out tere with any ideas?
I am fed up with being managed by people who think that they can treat us
like slaves.
I am keen to see what you think.
Please don't use this thread to bring in other airlines, we have enough trouble with our own.
see ya.

6chimes,
i trust you work for bmi too, maybe as cabin crew?
if you mean being treated like slaves in reference to having to clean your aircraft, sell food and drinks, operate more than just two sectors - welcome to the real world - an unfortunate world that is now low cost travel - i.e making the most of your resources!!
I work for the bmi group, and i remember the change we had, the birth of the baby!!!! Some disagreed. not just crew, but ground staff too, those who didnt agree left!! At the time i was sad to see the excellent service bmi offered into what bmibaby offer now. However i am now very proud of what we have achieved with baby and bmi want to implement the baby model, which extends and affects both crew and ground alike.
Sorry to perhaps bore you with my view above but i dont believe the answer would be for you guys to strike!! That would not achieve anything, contrary to reports not all pax want the service on a shorthaul flight that bmi used to offer and still do. The low cost airlines put a stop to that, businesses want to save money so why pay so much!!!! - guess a thing now in modern times!!
i look forward to hearing your views, remember we were once in your place, so please dont say i do not know what i am talking about!!

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I agree with you that we had to change, the market dictated that.
The problem is that bmi management are looking to recreate the baby model at LHR, which is an entirely different kettle of fish than working out of smaller regional airports where slots are not as big a problem, holding isnt as big a problem. Flying in and out of London means that most of the time you are way behind schedule and only you the crew can make up that time on turnarounds. Where do we get a break in these long duty days? The commission rate of 6% is way lower than baby (8% between 3 crew at baby and 6% between sometimes 6 crew)
You folks at baby far out earn us folks in London where the cost of living is higher and it can take nearly an hour just to get to your car to start your journey home!
I am not saying we are to good to accept low cost operating conditions, I am saying we need more consideration in to what we face daily and find a solution.
Your thoughts are welcome.

hi jettsen,
Your quite right we do get london weighting AND still come out with less money. But thats not the real issue. Its being bullied and lied to by management that sticks in the throat. Look what happened at gate gourmet, keep on making the work force do more for less and it will come back and bite you.
Lets stop it now before we lose everything and become an assett to be bought out and leave another set of managers to deal with it.

Hi little blue,
To ask that question makes it obvious that your not bmi mainline crew but. that your more likely bmi management.
If you were crew you would not need to ask.

I work with the crew and, apart from the usual gripes, I don't see/hear any evidence of bullying, which is why I ask the question.
Management? Me? They wouldn't be so stooopid !
