bmi Low Cost LHR.

Hey all,

Well today is the day that I think the new 'modular approach' service for BMI starts (ie no Business Class and paid for food and drink). Was just curious to hear from any bmi crew how the transition went.

Also .....I seen on this site last week there was a post about a communication from the bmi cabin crew union to the cabin crew regarding disputes between the company and the union. This seemed to mainly concern the crew cleaning the aircraft on turnarounds, the low rate of commission and the fact that the union had not been consulted by the company. Having been bmi crew myself years ago I was keen to follow the topic. However, it was removed . Just curious as to why? Was this topic removed by the poster of the pprune mediators??

Cheers, and hope you guys stick together at bmi.

I wasn't working to-day so I don't know how things worked out. If the training on the bar computers is anything to go by it must have been fun! Union will have to stick by us otherwise it will be bye bye CC89 and bmi!

Is it sth wrong?

I would be really grateful if someone (meybe from bmi crew, but not necessary) could tell me if there are any problems with bmi as company?

Does bmi start to offer paid service on board because of any financial problems?

I consider applying to bmi, that's why I ask.....

Alex...
No probs financially..(well, apart from the usual ones !), but it's just cost-saving re-launch of our operations. Very similar to other carriers, (BA are about to go the same way), just means that crew have to work a bit harder on t/rounds.

Here we go again!!

What is it with some people on this forum?A question has been asked about changes taking place at BMI,why do some insist on bringing BA into everything.

Just to add a comment to the original thread... flew bmi from LFMN to EGLL this arvo. Cabin crew struggled with the new till system. In fact on the 1hr 40min flight around a third of the pax were not offered food due to time constraints. God help you lot on the Manchester run!

I was on the very back row, served first and had a jolly good sleep!

Cheers!

I was on the BD1 on Monday morning and, being seated at the front of the economy bit, was one of the first people served. The FA did seem to have a little bother with the computer thingy but given it was the first day of the sysem that's only to be expected. Not that many people appeared to have something from the service so it did seem to be dealt with fairly quickly.

I didn't have anything to eat (£3.50 for the bacon sandwich? I think not...) but you do get a much larger cup of coffee which I don't think is too bad at £1.50. In future I'll probably take along a Danish or something to have with it. Of course, the prospect of paying £3.60 for a much needed G&T on the Friday BD12 is rather more irksome.

Hi Point5,
You are lucky to be served sitting at the rear. The crew are meant to work towards the rear of the cabin. This way those who do not get served can see the crew have tried and will not be upset.

Qte
you're not allowed to eat your own food onboard!
End qte

Now where does it say THAT in your Conditions of Carriage?

Ps I've taken the liberty of correcting the spelling

1 hr 40 and did not get time to offer all pax drink my god welcome to low cost used to operate ncl-brs 45 min flight ALWAYS had time to serve 149 pax with only 3 crew and give out inflight magazine!!! think bmi crew will struggle with the new changes if they wanted to offer a low cost service and cabin tidy on turnaround i'm sure they would have applied to easyjet money there is far better aswell!!!!

Thumbs up

This service is going to take some doing on a 30 minute (ish) LHR-MAN! Having said that if anyone can -the excellent bmi crew can!

PS RevMan2 If you're going to start throwing stones about spelling -at least have the decency to spell the correction properly!

Regards,

CTB

welcome to the real world! Try doing a 28 minute flt from ltn - ams with 3 crew, serving 149 pax, handing out the inflight mag, doing a gash in, and counting all the bars and money before landing! Can be done and is done every flt. What u all moanin about?

Oh yes and by the way, It is ILLEGAL to prevent someone from eating their own food in a public place. Unless you can provide food which is suitable for that persons diet eg vegan, gluten free, wheat free etc, then they can eat where and when they like

I sat next to one of your Flt Supv on the bus not 2 hours ago and she was on the mobby to a friend stating the union is up in arms over it and many of the staff are worn out with the extra work.
