fish Some questions for the Virgin Crews

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am quite excited. I am going for a Virgin Atlantic interview on 13th of July and I have couple of questions in my head. I will be really greatful if some of you guys can help me out.

If I fly for Virgin, would I be based at just LHR or just LGW, or is it mixed, meaning one day I may fly from LHR and another day go on a flight from LGW? And if that is the case, does Virgin provide any Crew transportation or will I be needing a car to commute between the two airports? I know BA has separate crews for Heathrow and Gatwick.

Another question that I have is if the Virgin crew can bid for their flights, or request certain prefernces? Or will I be in the hands of the crew schedulers?

I would really appreciate some feedback please. I already have a job offer from BA but I still want to give Virgin a shot before I make a choice between the two.

Thanks guys,
xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi eserifog

Congratulations on the interview.

We (Virgin Crew) operate from both LGW and LHR, although a majority of flights operate out of LHR. A typical roster will consist of 5 flights, although sometimes 6 and they will typically be a mix of flights from both LGW and LHR.

You can request days off after 6 months and trips after 12 months, however swapping trips with other Crew is very easy provided it is legal and doesnt waste days etc.. etc.. Most crew have a preference for one airport or the other and will often swap trips if possible. I prefer LGW trips for example and have names of a number of crew who prefer LHR trips and will try and swap at least one of my LHR trips per roster.

Virgin provide a Crew shuttle bus that operates between the two airports on an hourly basis throughout the day.

Good luck with the interview and if you have any other questions just shout. I cant help with interview tips as mine was some years ago but know there are loads of threads on her that should offer some help.

I would say that you should go for ba cos after a while u can go longhaul and still do shorthaul, and when that important birthday or event comes up you could wangle a shorthaul route! where as with virgin you couldnt! Plus i think that ba is more of a company then a brand like virgin! its a hard chioce i know! i wish i was in your posistion and had those offers!
Good luck with what ever you do! xxx

there isn't mixed flying at LHR with BA so you would normally start on shorthaul then go on list for longhaul - once on longhaul you cannot do the odd shorthaul route to fit in with special occassions. however you can reuest trips after 12 months on longhaul and request UK days from day 1

Hi,

I currently live near Glasgow, and have been offered a cabin crew job with VS. I can't be bothered with commuting, and the thought of moving excites me, however I don't know the area around LHR / LGW well enough to decide where to start house hunting.

Is there anybody who either works for VS, (or anybody who knows the area) who can give me a bit more information on the best towns to live in, travel times to both airport, current rental prices etc

Really appriciate any help you can give me
