cabin crew/pilot

Is there anyone out there working as cabin crew presently, but also studying for their ATPL commercial pilot exams at the same time?

I am thinking of applying for a position of cabin crew to supplement my study for about a year. I think I would enjoy the position and have been told it's a good way to gain an insight into airline operations and economics, as well as strike up some important contacts.

Is this true, would it be a good idea and a good prospect for me to get that small step closer to becoming a pilot?

Hope anyone can help,
thanks.
