Epilepsy and recruitment

Hi there!

I have posted this on another forum but -

I am 15 years old and have recently been diagnosed with mild epilpesy/petit-mal and have recently started medication. My seizures are just going blank/daydreaming like but NEVER the ful fitting one like a lot of people think...

After starting the medication, I am getting very few seizures/if any and I have always wanted to be cabin crew when I am 19+ and it is really upsetting beacause I am worried incase I can't become Cabin Crew when I am older, like I said it is a mild one which is starting to get smaller so it's not really very dangerous, but I was wondering because CC are responsible for safety on an aircraft...

So, does ne 1 know the medical requirments for Cabin Crew with epilepsy. Please help me out as my doctor didn't really know fully, and when I emailed ba.com they said they cant answer individual questions,

Many Thanks will be appreciated

Perhaps someone who is a UK local can advise a good aviation doctor for you who would most likely have more information? Aviation doctors are specialists in this field and would most likely be able to answer your questions...

I guess it can depend on the airline, but I would say that no, you canīt work as cc with epilepsy.

I didnīt pass the medical check for one airline because I have a mild food allergy. They said that there was too much risk of me getting some kind of seizure during flight. And I think your condition is much more serious!

Good luck anyway!

Aroundtheworld,

have you tried running a search on the "Medical and Health" forum, I'm sure this has been discussed before.

The British Epilepsy Association, can be very helpful with career advise. Their number is 0808 800 5050,

good luck.

Thanks 4 the replies!

Yes I may contact one of those websites. In-fact there is one website which says all about job restrictions and it says something like, ' AIRLINE CABIN STAFF' - each airline has its own policies regarding this... depending on...' but some other things so no you cant and then others say 5-10 years without seizures or medication.

Thanks

By all means apply, but I think the answer will be no.
Maybe a ground job?
