Missing References - Now What?
I need HELP!!!!
Am applying for cabin crew positions, the only problem is this:
I don't have more than one reference for my whole work history.
One company I worked for, my site supervisor moved on and one of the other managers I asked "doesn't feel comfortable" giving me a reference.
The other gave me a statement of service with my name spelt wrong...and my only reference for customer service is with my sister's company.... (we have different surnames though)
So. How do I explain not having references? Do they really matter that much any more? or is it what you did in the job gaps that counts?
I'm planning to go do a tourism course at the local Tafe... reservations, guiding, all that stuff. Do you think it will help???
I have everything else.... senior first aid, RSA, Police Clearance et etc.

Oh just make it up!

Well I actually thought of something else since posting... I figure a reference from my old flying instructor should be okay.... after all, there's nothing like flying with a student to get to know how they do under pressure, right?

I'm sure one of them will give me a good reference... my flying wasn't THAT bad surely?

BAA
Wouldn't recommend making up a reference, BAA will withdraw your ID if they happen to find out. The Regulation states that if an ex-employer refuses to give a reference, he must write a letter to your new company stating that they refuse to send a reference, and it must be in the company's letter head standards. You will then need to ask a friend to vouch for you that you were employed during the dates you mentioned by that company. Hope this helps !
All the best...
PS. And don't worry, you won't get the bullet because of references issues, it's not in your new company's interest to fire you after investing in your training
