bmi longhaul positions announced LHR
its official!!!! bmi to start recruiting for longhaul ex LHR ( finally!!). As from march 27 will be basing one A330 at LHR for services to Mumbai and subject to the CAA appeal the "hot" rumour is that if we don't get extra frequencies to Mumbai we will be operating twice a week to Barbados.... 5 day trips to the sun. Yeah about bloody time!!!!!

good news but
...i still have the feeling that not everybody will be able to befenit from the joy of doing long-haul.
First of all, i am sure it will even be hard to get an internal interview for long haul (as it has been when aplying for MAN long haul). Besides a single late letter on your file or being in stage 1 of the attendance process will rule you out from applying.
And then, even if you manage to get to an interview, they will ask incredibly precise questions on the long haul service which unless you are a psychic or had the chance or travelling as a pax on BMI long haul, you will know nothing about.
So, yep, i am pretty glad to hear about the long haul opportuinities but until i ffind myself in Mumbai, i will not believe it.

Your honestly not suggesting that BMI are creating a dedicated fleet of crew for a single aircraft to be based at lhr??? Would it not make more sense to just remove the fokker licence off the most senior crew and keep them cross trained for the A330/A319/20/21/B737's. Makes a hell of a lot more business sense!!!

You are right paddy, as Twisted said, BMI is recuiting internally a dedicated LHR crew for long haul. I guess those lucky ones will be mixed fleet anyway, so what you said makes even more sense. The FOKKER PEOPLE SHOULD DO INDIA!!!
It would be fair to give long haul to people who have been loyal to the compagny, those who have been here for years..unfortunatelly the hot board mention that people with long haul experience are preferred!!! How unfair and not logical! It means that someone who has been working for bmi say 8 or 9 months but used to work for Virgin has more chance of getting long haul that someone who has been doing short haul for 6 years with BMI.
Some people are gotta get upset and are gonna leave, i can just feel it.

Well for anyone down in London Heathrow just to let you know that the crew in Man have been offered transfers. Only 50 crew needed so far for one aircraft. Of that 50 5 to be csm about another 5 to 10 chefs and 15 flight supervisors so that cuts down the number of crew (as in cabin services on the badge) considerably. Word is initially the Cabin Services Gods wanted the Man crew to operate the route solely but because our Nigel got a hammering from the crew in the Crew Room he said that a base should be opened. Nice guy but a beancounter by trade so he could see the sense in a LHR base as this means less expense nightstopping Man crew every night.
Of course not everybody is going to be happy, that's a given. But now is the time folks to wear the red lippy and look smart and nod a few smiles in the direction of the Duty Managers as opposed to bitching while looking like a heap on airport back-up. Also try swatting up because that service questionnaire is rock hard and get chatting to Man crew who are a decent bunch and not the vile up themselves lot as often protrayed (Yes they are a few but you get that everywhere) Any Folks Best of Luck and see you on the Mumbaii. Vindaloo Anyone!

believe me, Mumbai is nothing to get excited about. You can't go in the sea, as its so polluted, the place stinks of sewerage, but some hotels are nice. If you have to cross the road, try find a cow and follow it.! ( cows are sacred animals in India so drivers will never hurt one). Try to cross the road on your own, you have a death wish. Mumbai is the only place i know where drivers tuen a 3 lane road into 8!
