New leg to the Bird flight

REGINA Bird couldn't be happier with her new job as a flight attendant for Virgin Blue - unless she was allowed to show a bit more leg.
The diminutive Big Brother star touched down in Hobart yesterday wearing long pants, the sensible choice on the Tasmanian route.
But after a week on the job Reggie has decided she'd like to shorten her Virgin Blue skirt.
"I love the uniform but I would like to shorten the skirt a bit," she said.
"I'd like to show a bit more leg."
Bird - whose denim mini-skirt was auctioned for more than $17,000 last year for charity - said the uniform was her only qualm so far.
"I'm loving the job," she said.
"I started on Monday just observing and fitting in but now I'm stuck right into it and feeling more confident."
She spent last night catching up with her parents and grandmother and said she welcomed a rest in Tasmania.
"I haven't been back for five months and I've really missed Tassie and everyone," she said.
"Plus flying really takes it out of you, I need a rest and mum and dad are staying in the hotel with me so we can catch up properly."
After five weeks of intensive training in Melbourne, Bird, 30, took her first flight on Monday and has flown to Coolangatta, Sydney and Adelaide.
She has been recognised on every flight and signed autographs for Hobart Virgin staff moments after stepping onto the tarmac.
"People ask me where they know me from and when they work it out or I tell them they get so excited," she said.
"The crew has been really patient with people holding up the cart to talk."
Bird said her nerves vanished after her first official day at work.
"I was so nervous about pouring hot drinks, I was worried I was going to spill it on someone," she said.
"But I've been good so far.I'm having fun."
In her time in the Big Brother house Bird repeatedly expressed a desire to leave the Cambridge fish and chip shop she ran with her husband Adrian, whom she has since separated from.
"This is what I wanted for me," she said. "To travel, see things and meet people from over, I couldn't be happier."
After a year waiting for TV projects that didn't happen, Bird said she was happy to finally have a routine.
"It was frustrating all that time waiting for something to happen," she said.
"I'm happy now I have a work routine and a life that's normal again - like everyone else."
She we will leave Hobart for Perth today and enjoy 23 hours of free time to explore the city.
"I can't wait to have a look around Perth," she said. "And getting stuck right into this, I'm having such a good time."
