BA CC tax to be paid
National press are reporting how BA Cabin Crew will find themselves hit with the taxman from early next year with regards to their so far non-taxable allowances. WW crews will be expected to pay between 38%-42% and Eurofleet 45%-52% on all allowances. Pretty heavy figure really! Ouch.

It will not make too much of a difference in our salary according to the union. Our allownces are far better than an hourly rate. Our income will dramatically reduce if we went on to hourly rate. So whether we pay more tax or not, its still better than our proposal at the moment.

Well, jerrystinger, we pay tax on ALL our meal allowances anyway. But it is true that some other payments (non-meal related) are currently tax-free. But we certainly won't be getting the hammering you think we will, infact, our union (who has been chatting to the taxman directly) has told us that any increase in tax on our meal allowances will mean an increase of less than £2.50 per £100 earned.
In my book, that beats the s**t out of the Elapsed Hourly Rate proposal - ANYDAY.

BA Boi - Have I hit a nerve? I was merely pointing out that the new tax agreements will have an important impact on crew earnings, like it or not. BASSA have had negociations with the tax office, but to get a reduction in what the taxman wants to impose because it was pretty high and BASSA have secured a 1 or 2% reduction.
As for the hourly rate, it may not make sense, but nor did the reduction in basic wage in 1997, but it still went ahead, despite BASSA's hard work! Never take anything for granted....

As stated in my previous post, the new levels of taxation WILL NOT have the "...important impact on crew earnings..." you fantasize about. Infact, I would go so far as to say that they would be fairly negligible considering the positive gain our union has secured with regards to our Personal Tax Allowance.
And yes, jerrystinger, you are correct that the New Entrant pay-scales went ahead in 1997 - but you are forgetting that that change of contract only affected Cabin Crew who joined ON or AFTER the 1st of January 1997, they didn't have a say as they hadn't joined - but all the crew who joined before that date obviously kept their starter pay-scales as the change didnt affect them, only those after them. What BA is/was proposing with the Elapsed Hourly Rate would affect ALL Cabin Crew, irrespective of their date of joining, which would mean a VOLUNTARY change of contract for ALL - they cannot go ahead with the Elapsed Hourly Rate proposal without the consent of our Trade Union Reps or ourselves (and quite frankly, the general feeling towards EHR is extremely negative). So, really, it was a bad comparison on your behalf to compare the two situations. Tut, tut.

Nope. This situation only affects BA cabin crew who are in the NSP. The only British Airways CitiExpress crew who would be affected by this, is those who were previously part of what was British Airways Regional.
