This all seems very strange.

Why would they go to the expense to put 400 people through the medical and verification stages when they only need 180?

You can understand they may have people that turn it down or that dont get through but come on 200 odd extra??

When I was asked to attend the medical, they explained that I would be given a job offer subject to med/verification etc

I'm sorry to be stroppy but I was rather pi$$ed off to have to give my credit card details to pay for the disclosure procedure. I also think it is rather sad that the pay is so bad and that people are worried about whether they can survive the training course on the basic pay only (£11,000 pa). Ok the sector pay and the allowances take it up to more but it is not what the work is worth in my opinion. All airlines get away with this - they can pay peanuts because they know that there are so many people desperate to do the job.

Have you received the disclosure yet?

I was told I would receive mine last week, Im still waiting.

When do you pay and how much?

Also on the scotland disclosure website it says it takes six weeks

to clear, Do we have to wait six more weeks for an offer??

Hi Hostie
We filled in a disclosure form at the second interview but they don't send it off until you have got through to the next stage. On the form you have to give your credit card details and the cost is about £14. I just don't think the job applicant should have to pay for this. I already have a disclosure for something else (which I didn't have to pay for) and it didn't take very long to process - maybe 2-3 weeks or so as far as I can remember.

I asked about Toni about the disclosure info and Qantas is paying for this service. It doesn't hurt to ask questions if you are not sure about it. Qantas needs the hard copy application - so do not apply online as it is a different company - or thats what I was told. Yeah the money isn't the greatest but look at the perks and the room for advancement within 2 years, plus job security.

All of this is standard Qantas recruitment process. In Australia ALL costs, such as medical and security are the responsibility of the applicant.

Qantas will at times recruit 100's of people and after medical, security and board approval, place them on a short lists waiting for a position only to be told 12 months later they wont be required and start recruiting all over again, this must cost them a fortune but thats what they do.

Also dont think for a minute that because you get to the medical and disclosure stage you are in. There are 100's of Australians that get to this stage every time Qantas recruits only to get the thanks but no thanks letter.

My advice concerning Qantas is wait until you are officially notified you are successful and you have a position with the LHR base.

Gotta say these days £11200 as a starting grade for any airline is good..and the allowances aren't bad so don't think its a bad deal...the days of the old ba world wide contract are gone..

As for the disclosure form my current airline charges all new crew to get one...wouldn't worry about getting one too quickly as they are only valid for I think 6 weeks and you need it for your LHR pass. if it runs out of date b4 the airline applies for your pass it will cost ya £14 again. Since courses don't start till feb doubt qantas will apply for passes untill your nearly finishing the course.

if you already work for an airline/ or already had one done for other high security job your disclosure will come through very quickly. if you've moved alot in the last 5 years or haven't been in your present job for long it can take 3 months....

Was asked to send off disclosure form to a Hudson office in GLA which have done. QF are definitely paying for it so no worries there. I do feel a bit misled but there is a good chance for us, having got this far, so am going to try going on being positive! May even give them a call tomorrow and see if they can confirm all these rumours!

The final stage is management sorting through all the applicants and deciding who they want, based on overall results.

They are still offering positions to Aussie crew, they want as many current QF crew there as possible. So they probably arent yet aware of how many they want to hire in the UK.

I have heard there will be more interviews in Jan, so the people who do the best overall will get the jobs - thats why they wont commit to anyone just yet.

It's the same as any other major airline recruitment, they take as many as they can to the final stage, then sort out who gets the (as yet unknown number) positions available.

Isn't it nice to have galleygossiper provide "inside" information about QF's recruitment process.

Even if they do pretend to be a flight attendant when the cirmumstances suit them.

oh jetlagger ... you funny old thing .... you are so a 'conspiracy theory' junkie .... you forget that this boy has been in qantas a lot longer than you, and probably knows more people who know more about recruitment than you .... yup still just your basic 'Y ---Do-I-Bother?' class f/a ... but have been here long enough to be able to hear a few things ... the london base (and those going there - a few of my best mates) are close to my heart ... so will be looking out for my mates off to there ... and those new to there ... read my posts ...

Gosh ---- did marilyn monroe kill JFK ?

You Honestly cant believe that there are QF crew who wish to give info that we know to those applying for LHR ....can you?

Sad little thing .... aint ya ?

I am too senior to worry about the loss of LHR ... enjoy mate .... and stop with conspiracy theories, you are such a loser

In Australia, my doctor did a test for measles which showed my ammunity after having them, I am sure similar test's are available in the UK. Just ask your doctor to do the tests and give the results to QF.
