Pilot medical usable for CC?

Hey,

Just wondering if a medical/ eye check from a DAME for a PPL would be sufficent during airline recruitment - have read that most of you have been required to pass a medical when going for CC jobs. If I already have one that's approved by CASA (when going for a job with an Aus airline) would I still have to do another one for the airline? Surely it'd be a waste of time and money if I'm already checked out by an aviation doc....

Or do they like to make sure all your med stuff is up-to-date and 'above board'?

If I did need medical/ASIC check etc, how much would I be looking at for these, and does having a National Police Certificate help in any way?

Ta for info....

No, you can't use it (well not for Qantas anyway).

I have a Class 1 medical each year and when I joined Qantas I had to have the QF medical.

The National Police Certificate is of little use to you, as a separate check is conducted which includes an AFP, ASIO, ACS and DIMIA check.

Yeah, tell me about it, after having to buy all those @%^$* books, charts, equipment, oh and then there's the small matter of the actual flying

Ah well, it is an expense that is worth it.....

Just out of curiosity, d'you have any idea what they're all charging for med/sec checks these days? fifty? a hundred?

Hmm, from memory I think the security check costs around $50 and I think the medical was around $100.

Hmmm. You have a point there. When you put it like that, one fifty is small change!!

(though the five to ten grand for the PPL i'm still getting over....!
