Baby car seats on aircraft.

I'm looking for a new forward facing car seat for my 9month old daughter. I'd like one I can use on aircraft as we travel alot. Any cabin crew seen ones which fit really well or really badly?

I've downloaded the CAA ruling on them for G- reg aircraft anyone know bout other regulators approach?

Canadian Regualtions

Hi there,

In Canada your car seat must be clearly marked with information authorizing it for use on aircraft, it should also be marked with regulation code 213 or 213.1 and constructed prior to 1981.

If these are not clearly visible you will need to hold your child for take off and landing, however you may use the car seat
in-flight. ALSO, if your child weighs over 20lbs you are permitted to set the car seat facing forward, if not the car seat must fast aft.

Then, have you also bought a seat for the car seat? If not it will be necessary to hold you child during the flight.

Wow! That's a lot of work, I'm sure kids are an amazing gift but I think I'll stick with goldfish

We will be buying the extra seat, its a small cost for vastly enhanced safety.

To quote my airlines requirements for car seats

"Passengers may provide their own purpose designed forward facing car type child seat with proper five point harness, that can be securely strapped to a forward facing passenger seat.
Use is for infants with a minimum age of 6 months to a maximum age of 3 years

The child seat must be secured to the aircraft seat by the lap strap, face forward and must remain in position for the duration of the flight. Where possible childs seats should be secured into a passenger seat adjacent to a window, but not in the same row as , or the row forward/aft of an emergency exit.
The car seat harness must secure the lap, torso and crutch. (The harness does not have to be five individual straps)

The adult lap strap buckle must not lie directly over any part of the frame, or under-structure of the car type seat after tightening. The frame may either be metal or plastic/polycarbonate material.
Seats must not be installed with the lap strap over the infant.

If the car tye seat is capable of adjustment in recline , it must be set upright for take off, landing and in any emergency situation.

Tables designed for use with the seat must be removed at such times.


A non approved car seat may be used during cruise , however the infant must be rmoved and the seat stowed in a n approved stowage for take off ,landing and when the seat belt sign is on.
At these times the infant must be secured using an extension seat belt."


bit long winded I know if in doubt contact the airline you are travelling with to confirm their particular requirements for their junior jets
