Hey Rollz... The way things are happening around at the moment there will be another class REAL soon! Especially in Sydney!

You will get another call soon, and start training! The important thing is that your IN!

YAY!!!!!

JB

PS: Meanwhile JB looks at the empty Inbox from MAM... then JB reminds JB to go back and read the post that some guy called JB just wrote on here.... ("Good things come to those who wait... Good things come to those who wait... Good things....)

Dear Rollz

Thats great news, dont worry, you have been offered the position, so that means that you have some security. Im sure that you will be fine. They must really be happy with you to offer you the position, remember you wouldnt have gotten as far if they didnt think you were what they are looking for!

Also, I hope the rumour about training is true, that means that they could be calling us both again soon!

keep in touch, and maybe we will be in the same training?!

Guys thanks for your support and kind words, I really appreciate it!!!

i really feel terrible though ....because i feel that qantas needs numbers and they just want to fill all the training classes ASAP and I'm afraid that once they fill all the classes and get thier numbers they wont need me for a while. I'm really concerned. Next training class is on the 9th of November and as i needed a few days off due to other commitments they said that it wont be a good idea to attend that either. So i have to wait till the end of November and see if they will have any classes available then!

Hey Rollz,

I know its easy to say but don't feel to bad, hopefully things will work out. These people have to understand that you can't drop everything the minute they call, you do have a life.

As for me well, its offical because i've done training with L/H i can't have the mam position, depressing i know but what can you do.......................

WG thats out of control.

Next they will be saying that because people had experience in other airlines they cant apply with MAM. Seems to me that the rules are not known... just applied.

You can always do the fixed term contract, and depending on your industrial relations beliefs (bit like being in a religion) you can join the FAAA, and who knows, you may end up full time. If not, go through MAM again, or they might activate permanent recruitment... who knows?

Good things come to those who wait... a very wise person told me that, and Im sticking to it!

Hi

Hi there, i don't want to sound negative, but i wouldn't be expecting a permanent position at the end of a L/H contract. The only way (i think) to a permanent position with S/H is to start casual, but as far as i've heard most of the new casual groups going through have had it made quite clear to them that the casual position they have gained will NOT eventuate into a permanent position! but who know's, QF sometimes change like the wind i guess.

Fingers crossed for everyone!

waiting_game,

It's very unfortunate and I'm very sorry to hear that you can't have the position with MAM.

But hey try to look at the brighter side of things...maybe there is a good reason for this...maybe it will work to your advantage, as you never know what Qantas has up its sleeves. They'll say one thing one day and a totally different thing the next day. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

That's the current attitude I'm holding towards everything that is going on at the moment...I think we just need to remain positive and just continue on with our lives and hope for the very best.

As you said....'we do have a life'!!!

waiting_game I don't understand the reasoning behind that. Did they actually tell you that was the reason you were'nt accepted for the position?

If it were me I'd be looking in to the legalities of that. Sounds like they are trying to scare people off jumping ship for a better job.

Give the union a call, even if it's for peace of mind or an alternative opinion about it. Just doesn't sound kosher does it?

Hello moonie,

I'll just tell you about my process.

I put my expression of interest to MAM on the 9th of October and I received an email on the 15 of October asking me weather I would be interested in applying for a Flight Attendant position.

My group Assessment was on the 23rd of October and my Panel Interview was on the 25th. I found out that I was successful on the 26th and they wanted me to start training TODAY....which I unfortunately wasn't able to due to various reasons.

So as you can see it is very fast paced and it took 2 weeks for everything to happen!

Good Luck

P.S- I'm not sure what sort of numbers they are after in each base and hence the reason why I can't tell you if you are too late unfortunately ...which sort of scares me because I've been put on a short list and GOD knows when they would call me???

But you will eventually get a reply, don't worry!

Training classes

Howdy all!!!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

I was just wondering if anyone has an idea if MAM/Qantas will be having new training sessions commencing in Sydney this month?

I'm aware that there will be one starting on the 9th of November, but if anyone knows if there will be anymore can you please let me know.

Thanks in advanced,

RollzRoyce

Well now that the FAAA has reached an agreement with Qantas...the dispute is settled...and I'am positive that MAM will no longer rush its recruitment process...which probably means there will no longer be any positions available for a little while!

Rollz,

MAM recruits for QF short haul not long haul.

The agreement affects the fixed term contractors employed by QF for the proposed industrial action in long haul. Not the people employed on casual contracts for QF short haul by MAM.

So you still might get the call up.

Hi Iguanahead,

The only reason I was assuming that was becasue MAM casuals who are hired for Short Haul now do Reginal flying which involves International flying to Asia Pacific destinations.

If long-haul crew went to strike they were obviously going to use Short Haul crew for this purpose and hence why I assumed the reason behind their desperate recruitment drive.

Yes you're right Rollz they do a number of international sectors. But they are shortstaffed across the board so they will still need new crew.

Also the crew have to be a/c type certified so it's not as simple as short haul taking over the long haul flights, they have to be trained in emergency procedures for that particular a/c. So even if long haul walked out they still need people trained on the 747 to crew it.

I'm pretty sure the MAM recruitment of late is purely for the shortfall of crew in domestic, not as a backup for industrial action in long haul. I'm open to correction though.
