YS,
Yes, it has....but I think you started it. I also think it interesting that your contract has been terminated, while at the same time, Astraeus is recruiting new crew. Looks like your former colleagues are glad to to see the back of you, and with your demonstrated attitude on here thats hardly surprising.

This has turned into a right slanging match, chill out!

T E D,
I have handed in my notice mate, not been termninated! That would be funny though if I had.
AEU are the only charter recruiting crew in the winter, because everyone keeps leaving!
Lets get back to the subject!

Interesting little theme going here!
With regard to nasty diseases, in this day & age it doesn't matter who you work for, which countries you fly between and who your pax are.
SARS pretty much brought the FarEast travel market to a grinding halt. I was fortunate that the routes I had were scarely affected, my fellow collegues flew them though, & then we flew together, then I positioned on other flights back to the UK. There are few global barriers against diseases since we took to the skies.
Common sense, practial precautions and a bit of information are the only defense we have as crew, but seeing as we get to bounce around the world practially for free, see some fantastic (& some eye-opening) sights, the choice is ours.
As for SL, I don't mind whether or not I see it on my roster.

Yello Star ... I believe that you are the only one here that has decided to bad mouth AEU when the subject was Lassa Fever.
I hope wherever you move onto in your career you suceed longer than you did at AEU.. Maybe you should work on South East Railways you wont have to do alot of work then..

Let look at the serious side of whats happened here, Our thoughts should be with the family of the poor person that has died.
Lets not turn this into a slanging match about Astraeus, everyone has there opinion and it is probably better if some people leave.
yellowstar - quite ironic really that you choose that name for yourself, You are definately Yellow and certainly not a Star!!!

A serious topic, this , spoiled by a juvenile bitching session.
Over the years I know of friends and colleagues working for everyone from BA and Virgin to assorted UK charter arlines that have been exposed to all sorts of nasties on their route network.
Just a quick scan of the timetable shows BA in Entebbe, Nairobi and various other African destinations where some of these diseases are high risk. Virgins flights to Lagos fall into a similar category.
I even had a colleague come back from a 4 day Miami stop with suspected Legionairres Disease. And lets not even go near the fairly recent SARS issues.
At the moment, my current route network is generally European, but in the past I have had cause to travel further afield, with all the inherent risks. I still keep my jabs up to date, partly because I am required to do as part of my contract, and partly because I like to holiday in parts of the world where there is a risk of contageous diseases. There is plenty of information available on the Internet with regard to the various risk areas and diseases.
Ultimately , the nature of the work we do puts us at a higher risk in terms of exposure to these sort of things. We accept that as part of the job. But we owe it to ourselves, and our familys, to take all the sensible precautions we can to minime our risk.
Yellowstar.....grow up...and shut up. You are a pitiful refelection of your profession and an embarrassment to all the professional crew in the industry

I have to agree with what southend king said at the end of the day everyone in this profession is at a higher risk. I don't know if it is coincidence but i was in freetown 10 days ago and there happen to be a conference at the hotel about lassa fever, so there is obviously a realisation about this disease
As for those of you who have used this thread as an opportunity to bitch about Astraeus, you're pathetic! Some poor innocent man with a famiy has died from this disease. He obviously didn't know how ill he was until to late, so think about that the next time you want to bitch about lazy crew or your bar commission

For Heavens sake Yellowstar...
Take a breather and lose the bee in your bonnet! I dont work for AEU but its obvious you have some problem with them which stems a lot further then trying to make some sort of money out of a route to africa...If you dont like doiing layovers there then leave the airline and go to one which is more what you want. But do take in mind that this other airline may too start flying somewhere you dont like...its something we all have to accept!!!
