mamers

gday waiting game

ive only been flying just over one week, but i know of lots of people who have been getting very decent causal hours.

As a back up I would have another casual or part time job, just as a safety net.

At the moment the hours are great (120 per month) and have been getting heaps of overnights, but im sure there are times when we wont be needed much.

cheerios, and good luck with it.

nickmelb,

thanks for the info!!

Still not sure what i'm going to do, i'm waiting on a response from QF long haul for fixed term fa (been to the medical just waiting for an answer) so i don't know if i should just wait for that and see what they come back with or go to the MAM ass centre????

I'm just really worried if i get a job with MAM i'll be one of those people who gets 30 hours a month and i can't live on that. Another part time job is a good idea but i can just see them both clashing with one another.

Oh well i'll have a think about it, worse things can happen to me!!

thanks again.

Hi there.

waiting_game I am in the same boat as you. Received an email from MAM re: Melbourne casual positions.

A fixed term contract is one thing, but a casual position....not sure if I can risk that.

If anyone works for MAM and can add their info on the hours you get it would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Keep your options open!
Don't bank on QF coming through!
I was on the shortlist for 15months and then they got rid of us all.
So if I were you I'd go for MAM & see what happens.
If you get both - then you can be lucky enough to be able to make the choice!
xx

Hi Guys!!!

I am a MAM casual. Obviously fixed term means fixed term! Once you've done your time you WILL not have a job at the end of it. Please don't think that it will lead to full time or part time as i'm sure you've read on other posts, you will only be used as strikebreakers and will surely be disappointed. In my eyes casual is far better than fixed term. I guess it just depends how much you want the job and what your situation is. Being casual you obviously do need to realise that there may be quiet months and then other months will be really busy. Unfortunately these days you will not be offered full time straight "off the street" as they say. I was at the training centre the last two days and there are LOTS of new people going through training on the L/H fixed term contracts and i feel sorry for them knowing that they probably won't be employed again at the end of their contract. its a shame, but a reality.

Good luck with whatever you choose?

Take MAM

Hey guys!

Been quite some time since I posted on here.......like Cart Tart, I too was on the shortlist for 15months only to be offered a 10month contract - and I had to move state to do it!! (NOW they begin offering BNE based contracts....but that's another story!)

Take MAM, everyone I know seems to be getting plenty of hours and overnights.

Nickmel - hey u....hope it is going well! Sitting in Dubai on my way home - cant' wait to start catching up on overnights!!

CT - must chat soon!
