excel longhaul
I've noticed on Excel Airways website that they are starting flights to Sri Lanka, Dehli and Goa in October.
Is it Excel or Air Atlanta who do the longhaul?
Do the crew get layovers in these places, if so how long?
Also how about there other longhaul destinations? I know last year it was all minimum rest.
Cheers!

Heard that they have good layovers, not sure what they are like to work for though. It is Excel that will be operating the flights though and they seem to have more longhaul flights in the pipeline.

Nope..you are wrong. There are two sets of cabin crew working there.Excel crew who fly the 767on long haul routes..and Air Atlanta Europe/City Travel Direct who are crewed by Air Atlanta flying the 747.The Excel 767-300(there is only one) has been doing Caribbean flights for the last year or so.At the height of the season, the trips have been what the crews call 'Bullets,'straight there,20hours or so off, with perhaps some inter island positioning and then back. But there have been many longer trips on the 'shoulders' of the seasons.3 and 5 day lay overs are not unheard of,and there is/was a 7 day Puerta Plata. The new Indian/eastern trips will be done using a second 767-300 aircraft. There is no positioning being talked of at the moment..so it is likely the eastern trips will be crew hungary by having longer layovers. But just as the planned Cuba routes were lost at the last minute..don't hold your breath..believe things when they happen. And just remember,Air Atlantic Icelandic have a long history of making good money as an ACMI provider, overseen by the almost imperceptably light hand of the Icelandic CAA.They are now trying to become legitimate and are suffering the inevitable soaring costs of dealing with the UK CAA,and three inefficient levels of management, one in Iceland, which is youthful, inept but politically required;one in Air Atlanta Europe, which is between the rock of the UK CAA and hard place of its Icelandic masters and is legally required, and Excel..which is trying to continue the sucessful business it began until the fishy fingers of the new Icelandic 40% owners started fiddling with its innards and is probably the only one who knows what it is doing and is commercially required! Interesting times!Rumour has it on the Z carpark bus, that Excel crews have a good time.

Don't really understand what u meant good or bad?!?!..........
The crew get 8% (shared between us) of whatever was made on the flight...if you get a hard working crew on a SSH etc... can get £40+ each commission. On top of flight pay + basic its not bad if you have a busy month.

Abra,
Thanks for your detailed post back in August. That may been way too rich for Med123, but it's precisely the kind of post that makes Pprune indispensible.

my dear xlgirl, fret ye not.
for you shall go to the ball, and from there to MBA, with some extra SSH and who knows where else thrown in.
just because one door closes, you should know by now that our commercial department will happily break in through the back window...

Heard we might get A300, A320 and 737-400's from another Air Atlanta's company. Let's hope they have less problems than the motely bunch we have now. Has anyone heard any other rumours.

I thought everyone who had A300's left were getting rid. Air Scandic are loosing their's shortly aren't they?
Where did you get this information from? I don't know of any Air Atlanta company with A320's either.

xlgirl might not be too far off the mark.
The owner of Air Atlanta Icelandic must see the inefficiencies of the system he has at the moment.Air Atlanta Icelandic overseeing Air Atlanta Europe, providing ACMI to Excel, whilst his other ACMI airline,Islandsflug, plays around with a range of planes from..yes A300s/310s,B737-4and300s and even a Dornier 228 or two.By buying 40% of Excel, the owner made a subtle but big change from being an ACMI operator to owning an airline. He jumped from being someone who provided a service to airline operators, leaving the risks inherent with running an airline for them to sort out,to becoming a high risk airline operator himself.A big brave and some might say, stupid, move! If,as is rumoured, Air Atlanta Icelandic's owner is going to push Excel and Air Atlanta Europe together, which would reduce the number of Head Office staff,he must,at some stage think of bringing Islandsflug into the Air Atlanta Icelandic fold too.
But where is all this leading? The old swashbuckling Air Atlanta idea of flying second hand planes to meet the short term requirements of the world airlines might look as though it is gently being replaced by an
unwieldy giant. In the near future things look safe.AAI have a very successful Jumbo Classic freighter fleet of 20 plus planes. They have recently introduced the Jumbo 400 too.But my bet is that the dodgy AAE/Excel/and possibly some of Islandsflug will be packaged up together and sold as a going concern. Its how he made his money with the Russian brewery. And think;if Libra Holidays no longer own Excel, what's to stop them going elsewhere for there flights?
