Sorry I don't have an answer but just had to say something. In this day and age I can't see how (at least officially) any company could get away with such discrimination. I hope the answers that follow are along the lines of NO...!

Yes they do discriminate married applicants (or at least they did until 2002). ... and for once I hope to be wrong...
According to what was stated during my interview, the crew' accomodation in Dubai is in separate buildings for males and females, with a curfew at 11pm. The company does not provide separate appartments for married couples moving there as new entrants.
If you get married after you become an employee, it's another story and I can't say... but as far as I know, getting a cabin crew job with Emirates as a married person is a big no no.
I investigated a little and found out that an exception would have been made if my husband had been an Emirates' employee or someone already working and living in Dubai.
Best thing to do is not to mention it on your CV. That way you can reach the 2:1 interview stage and ask for yourself.
If things have changed since 2002, then I suggest you read the website carefully, as I believe the word "single" was clearly mentioned back then under "minimum requirements".
Good luck to you!

thanks for the responds.
gee..a mixture of thoughts. well, i've read the requirements of EK, and it's not stated if the applicants should be single. well, i believe they strive for equal employement rights - could be just on the outside. so, not surprising if things are different behind the scene!
there's a prompt to state marital status, in the online application form. i do find it most difficult to lie about this area though.....
i wonder if this disqualification thing applies to male applicants too. could be a double standard treatment, i think.

I spoke to someone in cabin crew dept a few weeks ago about this, and she assured me that being married is NOT a probelm with them. The only thing is that your husband/wife has to sort out there own visa. Not sure if they help with accomadation, I would call them, the number is:

Good luck!!

thanks monarchgirl!
that's certainly good news.
i believe should i ever get to fly for EK, i'd be going there alone. my husband is bonded with our national airline.
i've left flying 2 years now. but i miss it so much. and i miss living and working abroad. plus flying all around. didn't have enough of that yet!
oh. i was with QR last time for just a year. and one year of flying and travelling in comparison to many many many years of longing to SEE THE WORLD just isn't satisfying enough!
it would be nice to turn those beautiful pictures of a foreign land into my reality, again........
till then, hope all of you still flying in the sky, soak all the foreign sights and life in for me too!!!!!!

The cabin crew accommodation is in shared 2 or 3 bedroom apartments. The individual apartments aren't mixed but the tower blocks certainly are. There is a curfew on guests after 1am, but this does not apply to other Emirates employees visiting. If you are married they will not provide separate accommodation but you do have the option of taking the accommodation allowance (which I think is about 30,000Dhs) and finding somewhere for yourself. However, 30,000Dhs won't get you very far- maybe a one bedroom flat. The big drawback is you will be reponsible for your spose's visa, health insurance etc.
Hope that helps a bit.

Well V1 Rotate......In Qatar Airways if you wish to get married you have to be atleast 5 years working in the company and then head up to the 9th floor of the good ol Qatar Airways Towers and plead with the Chief for permission!!!!! Now Im sorry but is this the middle ages...or is Qatar just in the middle ages?
