you seriously need to learn how to spell, it helps when filling in f/a application forms

Flying Sarah

It's not just a job to some people, it's their way of life, it's their life style, it IS their life

This is a JOB I have been doing it for years. Yes it takes more time away from your life than most, and creates a lifestyle but if anyone makes this job their life.... well a sad life it will be. It is nothing more than any job, it pays the bills. I feel sad for anyone who makes this their life - it means they have nothing more around them, those people you mention that
it IS their life
must be very sad people indeed.

It's just a job guys, dont get so worked up about it. There are more important things in life.

Hi all,

This is my very first post, so here goes. I have been through the interview process with QF 3 times - The interview process means an initial interview, then a group interview and then a final panel interview. For a grand total of 9 interviews.

Each of those 3 times I made it all the way through to the final interview AND the medical AND the referree checks etc...

I paid QF 3 times for the security checks and I attended 3 medicals which cost me a fortune after having the injections for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, Hep A and Hep B... and guess what????

IM STILL NOT A FLIGHT ATTENDANT!!!

How on earth does that work (By the way, my medical was fine each time!) If they have no intention of ever hiring me why on earth do they ask me back until the end? I don't get it!

Is there anyone else out there that is in a similar position to me? Perhaps my sign in name should be P.Q.I. which would stand for Professional Qantas Interviewee

Galley Power,
When was I complaining? I have clearly stated that I understand the terms of my employment thatnk you very much. I am not complaining that you still have a job, I was saying YOU guys should stop winging about the 'strike breakers'.
As I have said before, I do understand the conditions of my employment, I have the contract infront of me! Do you understand it though? Have you read it? No, so you don't know, you can only speculate. I am not naive about the situation, if I thought for a minute that taking the contract meant taking others's jobs I wouldn't take it. I am aware of other airlines in which I can apply however the oppurtunity has not yet presented itself.
So stop telling me how naive I am and how I'm taking your jobs and bla bla bla.
I respect the fact that you had to work hard to get your position and you would be worried about losing it to fixed termers however I assure you that will not be the case. It clearly stated in the contract, "this contract will not lead to future employment oppurtunities...if you wish to apply for other positions you must do so as before online and attend a series of interviews."
Ok, so lay off a bit hey.

So Paris Flyer...

Experienced a change of heart/mind then, when you consider...

this...

"What is so bad about being a strike breaker - think of it as work experience."
to this..

"if I thought for a minute that taking the contract meant taking others's jobs I wouldn't take it."
Please...thrill me with your acumen.

" I am not complaining that you still have a job, I was saying YOU guys should stop winging about the 'strike breakers'. "
And why? People who threaten the very point these crew try to make industrially are 'persona non grata'.

Irrespective of some of the opinions posted on here...

WHY IS IT THAT THERE INDIVIDUALS HERE WHO THINK THAT THREATENING THE EMPLOYMENT AND CONDITIONS OF OTHERS IS AN OKAY THING TO DO????

What was one of the features of this whole industrial action? Oh yes...QF wouldn't commit to NO redundancies arising from the opening of LHR base.

SO PEOPLE'S JOBS WERE THREATENED! Some may well say their conditions are STILL threatened - but that's for others to continue arguing now.

I'm sick to death of some people on here saying "oh, I did it to get a foot in the door", or "I did it for the experience". If you were REALLY into having a 'foot in the door', you could well have applied to these airlines, who offer PERMANENT FULL TIME POSITIONS regularly:
1) Eastern/QantasLink
2) Sunstate/QantasLink
3) Jetstar

All of the above actively recruit. In fact, Jetstar has two schools going through simulataneously right now for a total of 40 new recruits (or thereabouts).

Or you could consider MAM, who are also recruiting like mad for Short Haul too.

Before I got into flying, I worked for 2 other airlines on the ground. During this time, I went through 11 groups of interviews (that's right, 11). In that time, I also had medicals, referee checks, etc. all to no avail. Sometimes, a foot in the door doesn't always mean flying.

And before some I argue "Oh, but I only want to do international", let me say this:

I'd like to do international too - but it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. That's why I chose another flying job to at least give me a taste of what's to come.

And I am better for the experiences I've gained.

Midnight63,

If you do get in make sure you tell all the existing crew that you willingly chose to be a longhaul scab.

They'll make you feel REAL welcome.

Jettlager

P.S. The term is three month "scab", actually.

Are we in High School????? Sorry its primary school isn't it.

You people need to calm down and stop the name calling there are alot worse things that can happen to you than maybe working with a person who trained for the 3 month contract. If thats the worst thing that ever happens too you all, your very lucky.

you are absolutely unbelieveable jettlager...

Get off your high horse.... and everyones backs. The people who accepted the three month contract were wll aware of what they were doing (most of them) and attacking them now isn't going to change anything except maybe make you look like a horrible person.

Hello Midnight-63 and amongthestars;

Just a quick question regarding the panel interviews that are comming up next week. Is this for a position with Qantas mainline or MAM casual? Rumour has it that qantas will offer the fixed term contractors recently hired positions with MAM as they feel that they have a moral obligation to do so....

I'm on a short list with MAM and I'am dying to find out when the next lot of training sessions will commence!!!

Thanks in advance.

OPTIONS

AMOUNGTHESTARS
I have sent my options back too, I chose them all and am still waiting to see. Have you any other interviews?
Since I returned from training I have got a few interviews lined up with jetstar and virgin blue so even though it was only a training course and we won't fly long haul with QANTAS it has put my foot in the door to the aviation industry - which was my intent in the first place! Update your applications to all the other airlines - you've had a bit of training now and I am told next year there a couple of fleets expanding!
Goodluck!!!

Paris_Flyer

Hi,
I don't have any interviews lined up yet. I was rejected by Jetstar a few months ago and have to wait to Feb next year to apply to Virgin again. When you updated your details on staffcv did you list the Qantas training?

This post is meant for posts a little way back in this thread, but to all the people who are saying would you turn down the QF strike breaker position if you were offered it, wouldn't you do it if you wanted to do it, I'm just following my dream etc. etc. well the answer is NO! I HAVE turned down QF on 3 occassions, and I have still followed my dream, and guess who has a PERMANANT, FULL TIME, STABLE career as cabin crew, for a mainline carrier who is one of the most reputable airlines in the world? Well, hey, that would be ME! Sorry if that sounds arrogant, but it's true. I'm not having a go at anybody in particular, and I'd be the first to accept a QF position if it was under a proper agreement, but I'm just saying that what QF are offering is rubbish, and all it can possibly do is ruin current crews conditions, and I don't care what anybody says, it IS MANY crews life, and that doesn't make them sad, it's just how they choose their life to be. Nothing wrong with that at all.

A friend of mine just got the standard rejection letter, with a 6 month embargo on further applications.

We are both from Perth, meanwhile my application is in Linbo Land, and aparantly held up my MAM application, even though I withdrew it as soon as I found out.

Remember guys that some people (like myself) were using these interviews as practice, and if offered the position I would have joined the FAAA, and been involved in the same industrial fight that you were. Now that that dosent appear to be happening, lets leave the bitterness behind. Nobody knows the true reason behind why these people took the jobs, and nobody can predict their likely actions come any industrial action/ picket line.

Heres hoping that 800 ish crew is as far as it gets in the near future, so there is some jobs left in OZ for all us wannabes!

Hi!!!

QF states that you must go to a doctor trained in Aviation (DAME). When they email you advising you of this, they will usually recommend a doctor or two. The only needles you have to have are Hep A & B, immune to chicken pox and i think that's it, i can't remember? but if you've already had this, just bring your vaccination certificate with you.
