Hi everyone....
Any Ba cabin crew let me know the possibilities of on the spot upgrades? Im cabin crew myself for another company and wondered the chances??? Im travelling to MIAMI next mon (22) in economy

i think he wants to know whether it's possible to be upgraded from economy to either business or first class onboard since he's cabin crew with another airline. i don't think he's going for an interview, maybe for a holiday!

Yes, im going to florida to do some flying for my commercial license as im leaving the trolly dolly life for an easier job :-)

Pretty slim. Set your expectations for cattle class and anything above this is a bonus. I work for the company and have only been upgraded less than 20% of the time and only twice on board in 6 and half years.
The problem is at BA we have some crew who are downright spiteful and will report CSDs/PSRs for upgrading people in the cabin.

MMMhhhh... very hard my dear....
I've been flying several times with BA on long-haul but never managed to get more than a glass of champ and a newspaper... They have loads of BA crew travelling on standby and they are usually the ones getting the upgrade (logically). Unless you know one of the crew members personally I would say your chances are really really slim (say nil).
The few times I've heard of pilots being upgraded, they were travelling alone and they wore a business suit.
I also position very often with BA and even wearing my airline's uniform I never managed to get upgraded.
With AirFrance I even ended up sitting in a crew seat for the whole flight due to a mistake in the booking system, although there were loads of empty seats in Espace France.
My best advice would be for you to register with BA online as a frequent flyer and start collecting miles. You can then redeem your miles on a successive flight (for an upgrade from cattle class you need 25'000 miles on a long-haul). Unfortunately your flight to Miami will only pay about 6000 miles so you'll need to travel some more. It's a long process but if you keep doing it for a while you'll eventually fly for free! Better than a kick in me front-bottom! (awww... I like that Ali G joke!).

Well, maybe I've just been really lucky, or maybe it's my cute boyish good looks , or maybe it's a combination of both. But BA are the best for onboard upgrades.
At check-in, forget it. But on board a flight LHR - YVR a cabin crew member spotted my travelpro luggage and asked if I was crew, and when I replied in the affirmative, he kept me at the 3 doors until he'd got permission from the CSD to whisk me up front. The doors were being armed for departure and demo was about to be put on, and I was escorted to a fantastic club world sleeper seat, another crew member helped me find a spot for my luggage, and I still got a glass of pre-boarding champers. Best flight!
On another flight to SEA, the crew tried to upgrade me, but unfortunately Club was full (oversold actually, turns out they had to re-accommodate some people in World Traveller +), otherwise I would have been up front. As it was, free champers and moved to a seat with more room and free seat beside it. Again, fantastic crew.
Even on Euro and Domestic flights I've had a few extra treats.
I NEVER ask for an upgrade or favours, but if the crew on BA find out I've always been treated well. Way it should be!
At risk of going off topic, how do other people feel about upgrading other industry staff.
Personally, I feel that if the seat is going empty, it does not incovenience any revenue passengers, and the non-revenue pax is appropriately attired, then it's a crying shame that the seat up front goes empty.
No matter what your logo on your tail, whether you wear Costello or Jaeger (or even psychadelic Orange Puffer Jackets, lol), we should all look out for one another. After all, we pretty much deal with the same sh*t at 35,000!
Someone earlier made a comment about some BA Pursers / CSD's being worried to upgrade for fear of being reported by nasty petty minded other crew members. This is truly tragic and I hope it's not very widespread - who would be so petty to report your CSD/Purser for upgrading a non-rev?!!?
Finally, if they don't want the upgrades happening on board, why not implement a formal (and fair and decent!!!) policy regarding staff travel upgrades. United Airlines is to be commended - as an employee or eligible of UA, you can list for your preferred class of travel. If you go Y, the service charge is very low. IF you go C or even F, you pay a little bit more to reflect the increased cost of the service etc. So you automatically can get the highest class available. It works well, and as an employee I think it really boosts morale and helps people feel more valued. Other airline crew cannot travel in F International, but they can usually standby for C class if it is available. Way to go United!

Jimjetter, Are you travelling on concessions? If so, watch them at MIA on the return sector.
In my experience, BA staff travel out of MIA is a joke, they do not respect the onboard priority and seem to onload as they see fit.
If you have a m8 that works for BA, you're best to ask him/her for a hotline ticket, that is confirmed. Also get them to check the loads and your onload priority for the return, so you can let the check in staff know at MIA that you know when you should be boarded.

Must admit BA do look after staff. Interesting what you say about UA. At Qantas we have to wait 7 years before we can buy Business class on International services and it used to be 10 years!!! We are unable to buy First on a staff rate period. You can buy business domestically though on staff rate. Our airline is very strict as well with Onload categories etc..

BA will always give priority to the their staff, getting upgraded from World Traveller to either Traveller Plus and Club is very slim as mentioned, if you know the A4's and A6's (Senior Staff or Supervisory Staff ).
I got upgraded to JFK to Club but could not have the club meal.
I find the staff at JFK T7 very unhelpful and rude. You will get a better chance of upgrade from MAN, LGW than LHR.
All you can do is ask politely at the check in desk to put a "SFU" Comment.
