AIRBOY,
I work for bmibaby out of NEMA. If you have flown for charter airlines befor, i dont think you'll enjoy baby.
Money is quite good, but you work flipping hard for it ..e.g.. report at 12.40 to do a BFS-ALC and finish at 23.00, ok if your just doing this for 1 day, but do it for 3 days on the trot and you'll know about it.
The uniform is absolutely VILE, you dont tend to get much respect from passengers because we really do look scruffy.
All in all, you do have a laugh with the crew, but then you need to as you are stuck in a metal tube with them for 11 hours.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info geezer!!
I have to agree the uniform is not a part i am lookin for!! Not sure if you have heard this geezer but i was told in the interview that they are changing the uniforms in June/July to a more "professional" image!! That should be interesting, do you know any more??
I dont workin hard for my money, if the money is there!! better than my current airline 3 flights a month!!
Totally broke and been broke every winter for the last 4 years, Charter market is so predictable!
What is the management/crewing /rostering like at baby???
Average take home???

Hmmm, new uniform. If we ever see it. First we were meant to be getting it in March, then May, now June/ July, more like June/ July 2005! Perhaps the management should try wearing it!
Rostering very unfair. Always finish you on a late before days off and send you back on an early and i mean ALWAYS!
Not sure if you were told this in your interview, but you can actually work into your day off up till 3am before they give you another day off. For example, if your delayed and you dont land till 02.15 and that is your day off, then its tough luck.
Crewing not very friendly at all. they will never ever help you out.
Like i said, money is good, 4 figures!
I know it sounds like i dont enjoy it at baby, but i actually do. I have no plans to leave yet.

I worked for baby....for a month......
One day in November 2002 we worked for bmi with a decent uniform and HAD to wear hats and gloves - the next day when baby was born we were bmibaby crews with generic trousers and ill fitting t shirts....
THe passengers didn't want to buy drinks etc etc (where the day b4 they were given them free) and we felt like Fagins mob trying to steal their money off them!...and frankly that state of mind is still there...........
The deal with these low cost outfits is the fact that they are there to make money - and sod the rest of us!
The ethos is to bring in crew (preferably the younger and more innocent the better) use and abuse them for as long as they can stand it (it actually averages out at about 2-3yrs) and then they just leave. At bmibaby you still get your training free - but as the crunch comes you dont even get training free and have to pay (see Ryanair)....imagine being so innocent that you pay for being beaten with a stick!!!!!!!
The days of low cost are numbered and there will be a turn towards a civilised and pleasant form of air travel - for passengers and crew alike!

I joined bmibaby when the airline was first launched in March 2002, taking off from a long term and rather cushy position over at British Midland Commuter from the Fokker 100 team.
The airline does, and always has done, get crews to typically do 2 round trips daily on a 5 day on - 2 day off, or 6 day on - 3 day off schedule.
The 737s have absolutely dreadful interiors and the sooner we get them pensioned off the better. Maybe this proposed co-operation with Germanwings will convince management to give us some A319s, because the 737s are dingy & cramped in both the cabin and the galley.
As mentioned, the uniforms are dreadful - they were originally designed along with the aircraft livery and bmibaby logo, to signify a "fresh & relaxed" approach to flying from the bmi group. Crews never liked them. They look ridiculous, which means that passengers really don't take you seriously enough (I hate the red puffa jackets) and if you spill anything on the white shirts they're stubborn as hell to get out and you end up working with a masive stain all day - something that blends in easier on the blue shirts! As mentioned, the new uniforms are meant to be "smart but casual" and were supposed to be introduced at the beginning of the summer season. It looks like it will now be the beginning of the winter season.
It's not a bad place to work per sé - the route network is constantly swapped, the uniforms & aircraft are shoddy & uncomfortable (of course not on a safety level!) but the crews have a laugh and its reasonably stable work.

i'd just like to say the red sweatshirts that the poor crews wear at the moment are awful. i haven't seen the designs for the new uniform but i hope it's better. after working for BMI with the hats and gloves i can understand their horror at the cheaper look.
may i add that most of the crew we see in our base, are always really nice to us, and eager to help us in our bid for quick turnarounds.

I too am really interested in seeing when the new bmibaby uniform is going to be revealed to us, as the general public.
I saw in a short lived topic from about a week ago, it was identical to the EasyJet one, just everywhere where there's orange its blue or red. Doesn't sound too bad, esp. cause blue & red do look nicer than orange!
Can anyone confirm when crews are getting the new uniforms?

At the uniform launch at EMA we were told that the new uniform should be ready for late summer/autumn. Not soon enough in my opinion!
As for the uniform, the men will wear a short or long sleeved blue (bmi colour) shirt and navy trousers (and much better quality than the current ones). There will be a vile navy cardigan with bmibaby down the side to replace the even more vile red sweatshirt. There is going to be a casual jacket, but not a suit jacket. and to replace the red puffa jacket there is going to be a long blue waterproof coat.
For the women, they will wear a blue blouse, a choice of trousers or skirts and a thick blue sleeveless waistcoat (similar to Asda!!).
Everyone's opinion of the new uniform seems to be positive that it is a vast improvement but it still is definately a "low cost" uniform.

I had an interview with baby on monday and it seemed to go really well. Hard work but a lot of fun. Does anyone in the know, know how long they usually take to get back to you with a yes or a no?
Info would be much appreciated beacuse I'm on pins waiting to find out
