You should be fine! The flight's a 747-400!!!! If you were on the A340-300, I would tell you to cancel it and re-book with another carrier. The A340-300 sucks ass.
Virgin are, well, OK. I flew them one time from LHR-LAX. This was actually back in January. Found the service to be mediocre, the staff to be neither cheery or miserable (that annoying little in-between bit where you can't be angry with them for being bitchy and can't be happy with them for being cool) and found the food to be pretty average.
Given the choice between VS or BA, BA would always get my money.
Course, this opinion is based on just one flight with Virgin and I am sure that there are many other times when their service is just fantastic. Still, I can't risk another 12 hour flight with poor-ish service on the off-chance.
P.S. Have a good flight

You will have a great time in San Fran, as crew it's one of my favourite destinations!
Eddy I'm sorry if Virgin didn't meet your expectations on one flight. I'm sure you know that everyone has their off days. You can't judge an airline based on one occasion. Everyone gets it wrong sometimes, no airline is perfect. I could name quite a few occasions when I have received dreadful service with various airlines yet the previous instance they were exemplary.

MakingaSplash, your reply is appreciated!
I think that part of the problem with Virgin is, and you'll perhaps see more of this on a thread about VirginBlue further down the page, that the airline(s) is marketed to high heaven. People are given an impression of Virgin being an absolutely fantastic carrier and while I am sure they ARE a great airline, I don't feel their on-board service meets the expectations that the travelling public may have about them.
The airline is marketed as being fun, lively, friendly and offering a superior level of service to any other (major) British carrier. Sadly, this gave ME the impression that I would get on the plane and the atmosphere would be unlike and other that I have experienced on a X-Atlantic flight. Wasn't like that.
To be fair and at the risk of sounding like I am going completely back on what I said earlier, Virgin Atlantic ARE a fantastic carrier - they are just marketed to be SUPER FANTASTIC and that is sadly something that's not really possible to be with 300 passengers all trying to demand your attention.
Thanks again,
Eddy

All a question of luck, perhaps. I did LHR-LAX on a VS A343 last year and was well impressed. Fun crew, great catering (chicken tikka massala), good IFE, and they don't cut the movies to pieces.
I've not done transatlantic with BA (not slowly, anyway ) so can't compare them. But VS certainly outdid any US carrier I've crossed the pond with. Honourable mention to UA though - with Channel 9 on the headset, I'm a happy man.
I'll be transatlantic with BMI in a few days, been told they're also good onboard. I'm (almost) looking forward to that one.

Hi,
I'm flying LHR-SFO on 1st Jan 2004 ( in Upper Class ) and returning on 6th Jan 2004 .
The VS 19 on 1st Jan is the A340-300 but is the 747-400 on the 6th Jan. ( looking forward to the Upper Deck)
I'm sure the onboard service will be as excellent as always has been on my flights ( in all cabins)
Regards

Virgin Atlantic superb, but just hope that you get a aircraft fitted with the mas ife system, some are still fitted with archaic rockwell collins, which on a very good day works. As for comparing VS to BA sorry no comparison VS comes 1st each and every time.

VS019/VS020
Hey Guys,
I would just like to thank all the crew on the following flights:
11th December - VS019
21st/22nd December - VS020
The service on both of these flights was amazing, I had never flown with Virgin before, but from these 2 flights I am going to make sure I fly on them everytime I do long haul.
Had the Odyssey IFE system going out, and the Vport coming back, both systems were brilliant with no problems at all!
Just to say thanks and I would definitly recommend Virgin Atlantic as they are an A* airline!

Eddy why does The A340 suck ass?
I have made many long haul flights in the A340 and it is fantastic.. The quietest plane around. Comfortable ad gets you from A to B just like the 747 and all of the other great planes out there?
Basically i think your comment was a little harsh never mind being childish....."sucks ass"!!!
