I officially left QF!

It's official guys and girls! I have now resigned from QF...so no more saying hi hi during the transits/turnarounds guys. I still want to be a flight attendant of course it's my dream I'm still pursuing eagerly. Several airline interviews later and I have landed a job in something sort of similar to a flight attendant.

I'm now a QLD TravelTrain cabin attendant. Alright...I'm not in a plane and I'm not jetsetting around the world but the interview was very competitive probably more challenging then most of the airline interviews I've been through so I've decided it must be a good opportunity that would will help me get into cabin crew. It's better then breaking my back crossing seatbelts etc all day/night and not having a staff room and sitting on the tarmac in the heat or rain. I get to spend more time working with people and not have to squeeze volunteer work in to keep customer contact up.

I feel very disciplined now I have worked over 1 year with no roster working on call 24hrs/7days per week went through the SARS episode etc Dr Phil...you know what i'm saying lol!!

I haven't started rail yet but from this point I recommend others to perhaps think about this avenue as a possibility to work in whilst waiting for the dream job. It pays well and is probably the closest thing to being a flight attedant espeacially long haul. There is economy/business and a very lavish first class! the longest trip is BNE/CNS that takes 25.5 HOURS!

I would like to take the opportunity to ask any of the current flight attendants who read this post to take time and comment if I have made a wise decision as it has been a very difficult and long one.

Again thanks for ALL your support! - Ozskipper/QFSkywalker/Ditzyboy/VDD/Galleyhag/PeanutPusher/Red Rat and All the rest of you PPruners...it's been a very VERY tough year so many times I felt like forgetting about my dream.

Congratulations Mike!!
I know a few of our FA's used to work on the Indian Pacific as cabin attendants. I think you've made a wise decision! It'll certainly give you worthwhile experience!
Have you thought about applying to NJS?
It would mean you'd have to live in CNS, PER or DRW but you'd still be flying!!!
Goodluck with everything!
Keep us posted with how it's all going!

more face to face

Thanks Cart Tart and Traffic boy yeah Traffic boy i was in QF catering. I didnt get to meet many customers, it was mainly behind the scenes stuff, I tried to make the cabin crews job easier for them so that our customers got the best travel experience.

It was good experience I know aircraft cabins inside and out...not with just QF aircraft but other airlines. I did alot of close teamwork with different crews any time of the day..and it was fun at night because when everyone was tiered I used to play flight attendant and do the demo with the child extension seatbelts and serve drinks (coffee/coke) to keep everyone refreshed....that part was fun etc! You also get access to QF College

I think that yo have made an excellent move. Too many people (not just in our crazy industry) get a little too tunnel-visioned when going for their dream job. But you have shown the maturity to diversify your experience and skills - which can only benefit you.

Well done Mike,

I think you'll love it. I was fortunate enough to have 20 years as a flight attendant and it was a great gig. The experience you will gain will look excellent on any future C.V. Just keep the punters happy and all will fall into place.

I have discovered that there definately is life after flying , in fact I am now at the start of a great career as a paramedic.

I hope you get to experience what a great job being a flght attendant is.

Good luck to you

Wise decision

Hi qfmike737

Good on you! I'm sure you will enjoy it - you have a great attitude and the customers will definately appreciate it.

As you said it's not a F/A job but close enough and the experience and customers service skills that you will get will be excellent! This sort of job will definately set you up well for the next round of airline recruitment interviews that you go to.

You'll meet heaps of interesting people also. Good luck!

Cheers

EVERYONE Thankyou so much!

WOW! I'm already so overwhelmed with the response and support everyone has given me. I've had responses from all around the world :-) I think this shows the true spirit of what these Pprune forums are all about. I read all your posts and remember the support you have given me when times got tough.

I'm nervous and excited starting my new job this Monday but that's all part of the experience.

Redcap...I'm not too sure about Mincy...I think i'll keep the qfmike737...That's how everyone knows me. qfmike737 the cabin catering boy! I really believe now that onece you have the aviation/travel industry in your blood it's there to stay close to your heart.

Homesick rae it's great to know your always going to be there support me I wish you the best of luck with your journeys and every new experience.

VDD Thanks for your words I'll definately remember all your encouragement.

Smile- I know what you mean about tunnel vision. Let this be a lesson for ANYONE who wants to be a flight attendant...dont think that working one area of an airline such as QF groundstaff can give you an advantage or shortcut into QF Cabin Crew! For anyone trying to make a break...stay in a job that involves lots of face to face customer service and teamwork. A big bonus is for a known company that is known for this. Make sure you really enjoy it and that it gives you opportunities to even progress. You never ever know when you could get...it could be years...or just weeks. I'm only 21 but I've learnt that most of all enjoy yourself and keep learning new things!

Dr Phil...I SOOO WOULD BEAT YOU!!!! LOL I'll be thinking about you when I'm doing my 12 hour shifts BNE/CNS!!! Dont break a sweat now!

Sirjfp...WOW a paramedic..that would be a rewarding and exciting career! I know my dream job is being a flight attendnat but I know that I will one day make a change and what a fantastic change you have made!!! 20YEARS of service!! You must have enjoyed it very much!

OZskipper! We really got to catch up sometime!!! Let me know if you any news!!!

Just realised why you didn't reposnd to my email. I pressed 'save' instead of 'send'! It is still in my drafts box! Opps! Guess that's why they call me Ditzy!

Best of luck. I am excited for you! Please keep in touch!
