fright attendant -
I dunno about taking your Day Bag / Qantas Esky... I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing them in St. Vinnies or see homeless people walking around with them. I lived in Kings Cross for a year. In that time I saw people living on the street dressed in:
the 70's Qantas Pucci Jacket
the current Qantas Cardy
the HUGE Qantas YSL scarves - very 80's
a very scary looking dude in the current overcoat
and a lady wearing the current flouro red cravat scarf as head wear!

I guess our trash (read Uniform!) may be someone else's treasure, as the saying goes.

This whole scenario reminds me of the time my mother tried to make me this shirt out of some FREAKY looking material. (Was she trying for the Darwin Homemaker's Club or something?) Anyway she expected me to wear it. I threw a tanty and we had a fight. I ripped it up and used it as rags for washing Dad's car. They worked really well! So I guess that made her feel good - I dunno.

What I am saying (yes I may have a point) is that even if we don't want the luggage or like the design - there is someone out there just dying to get their hands on the new Qantas threads. WELL DONE QANTAS - you will make someone happy!

Re. the Runway guide. I have a friend that flies for United out of SFO. He read it and begged me to give it to him! He offered me $20!!! He laughed for hours. It was most entertaining to watch!

Ditzy

Are you sure the homeless people you have seen in the Cross wearing various items of QF corporate apparel are not ex Qantas crew, who after taking the package, found that they could no longer manage their seven mortgages, and hence ended up on the streets...? Hey at least we will be in Morrissey gear if it happens to us. And the day bag should fit a cask of Coolabah quite ceasily if you cut a hole in the side for the spout.

About 2 months ago a cleaning lady wandered into QCC1 sign on area with her Yves St Laurent uniform vest.... And someone from the Cabin Crew Team told me there is an orphanage on the outskirts of Harare in Zimbabwe where the children are running around in them too.

COOLABAH! OF COURSE! Why didn't I think of that?

Think of all the poshy wines I can carry in my new MAN BAG! Mozelle, Rosé, Riesling....

Takes me back to my heady days as an 18 yr old...

Who's ready to serve their binge drinking apprenticeship all over again?
GUESS WHAT KIDS! We can now carry the bladders in the bags now - without looking suss (except when we get tested from that new Drug and Alcohol policy...but we'll worry about that one later, eh Ditz?!)

uniforms

Dont complain too much people....some are less fortunate and have to wear the most feral QF uniform of all! I get asked if I work at Hungry Jacks!!! like that is sooo eeeeeeew! I would be very greatful to wear the new QF uniform anyday! But I'm not too sure about becoming impotent at the same time!!! YIKES!

Oh you can easily buy QF uniforms off Ebay...somehow they could have made it's way to Kings Cross!

fright attendant,

You nearly made me pi$$ my pants, your posts are hilarious ! I actually remember seeing some pictures of world vision projects in south africa and there was a school teacher wearing an early 90's Ansett uniform. A gay friend of mine from school many years ago used to shop around at second hand stores and I remember one day him showing me a Qantas uniform he bought for $15. I dare say now for security reasons that all uniforms will have to be destroyed.

As for the runway guide debate, there were "mature" people in the book. The mens section contains 2 mature looking men and 3 "fresh" faces as you say.

Ditzy - why did your friend want to pay you $20 for the runway guide ? Did he like it or hate it ?

As for me, I had my uniform a week ago, it fits perfectly and everything came in the right quantity. I am a happy customer !

Qwannas - can't wait to see you when you finally get your uniforms down the track, size 10 are you ? country road size 10 more like it Kim ! But yeh, look, that is nice sharon.

Skywalker

There was ONE mature man in that book...the rest were all below 30 (and some cases, 25)

By the way - where oh where were the mature women??

I believe Ditzy's friend wanted to buy it for crew entertainment on the UA flight back home...I somehow don't think United (or indeed, any other US carrier) have the same 'fixation' on uniforms as QF does...$20 sounds about right - it could make the rounds of the Y and P/J cabins in at least 14 hours...and just think of the fun you could have with it in crew rest!

Alas, my uniform is being altered right now (whoops a daisy, that's right - QF were supposed to do the alterations for me...why then did they say it was ready when it wasn't??) - so mine WILL eventually look nice, and I can look pretty like you skywalker (but, according to Ditz, my hair isn't as pretty as his)...

SHARON! - that was my LAST Dippity Bix!

qfmike737 - IMPOTENT? Did i miss something here??

Sorry mrS2 but this link chick is getting "frothy" with you ! You will have to stand corrected my friend. Please re-read your runway guide for the facts on the mature men who feature in the guide !
Flick to mens style and you will see Malcolm (30+) in the CSM uniform between the 2 fresh faces on first page, then turn to the next page to reveal John (30+) who is in the short haul serving vest - that is TWO mature men mrS2 ! As for the mature women I don't know ? At the "look good, feel good" uniform launch fashion parades there were plenty of mature ladies modelling the uniform ( most were in crowd whinging about the ladies pants ! ) but, there were some who modelled it ! Perhaps there was a shortage of female applicants who tried for the modelling gig in the runway guide.

And, I have now found my first gripe with the uniform !! Yes believe it or not there is one small thing that has made me froth - WHERE IS MY NAME TAG !!!!! There is no way in hell I am wearing that gold thing on this new uniform.

Can't wait to wear this uniform on monday ! mrS2 and ditzy are you coming via my home port anytime next week ? we've gotta have swan time through the terminal together !

Well - how was I TO KNOW that Malcolm was 30+...looks 15 to me!!
I still don't consider 30+ mature (not LONG HAUL mature at least...!)

Then again...we're not all supermodels are we Skywalker?...

OH and LOOK who's got a gripe now...the cheerleader for the new Qantas uniform has found out something we all knew about...no name badges

And it looks like our uniform date has been pushed back to Wednesday 24th now...not surprised I must admit...

I'll find out next week when the roster's released to see if I can make it to the Vegas...Ditz is doing his best to avoid being associated with the Day Bag, and as for me....well....my hair is prettier than his!

You are a rude little man! Hmmph! I think when it comes to style I really take the cake. Ploise, gimme a break... I am the bee's knees!

I thought the new uniform is set back until Thursday? When they called today they said I had to have it all good for "close of business Wednesday."

Me thinks I will take your Day/Gay Bag after all. I will carry two at all times. One for the bricks and one for the "Lady in the Boat" (what Darwin locals call Coolibah).

QF skywalker -
I so don't care if we never wear this new uniform. Which by the way I still have not picked up! When we meet in BNE may I have a tour of a Dash 8-300. Please oh please? Can I have a go? Me and you doing a GLT return! Couldn't do more than that. I would chip a nail for sure.

Kids I have already taken part in a uniform inaugral. *brag* Oh yes! I was on the very first Impulse crew to strut through the Domestic Express Terminal at SYD wearing the Daniel Lightfoot uniform. We turned in our Amcal Chemist number for his charcoal and pink collarless design with purple galley apron! We were the poo we were. Yes Honey, take a big whiff! We worked the building like we owned the place! Although after a day of wearing the wretched thing and the girls rope belt getting caught on armrests and door handles we all got over it. Also the blouse was cut very low and the girls soon found it was most revealing when leaning forward

I have a question for you all that wasn't covered in the Runway guide. Can I quick unpick the kangaroo on the luggage?

Uniform launch date!

I am yet to pick up my uniform, and was quiet excited to do so, before reading everyones thoughts on it. Gee, I thought it was okay when I had my fitting. I will soon see, thats if it "does" arrive on Sunday. Fingers crossed.

Uniforms called me today, and nothing at all was said about the launch date changing to the 24th. No one at EAA has advised us of any date change for the launch.

I can see Monday, being a very interesting day. Coolabah esky's, tight pants, wheely bags with unpicked roo's.......oh, the list goes on!

And just my 2 cents about Malcom.....He looks like a young boy to me.

Ditzy & Mr Seatback 2, you both crack me up. Having worked with you both in the past, everytime I read a post I can see you both so vividly stating your cases. I too, have experienced the humilitation of the Impulse Amcal Chemist number and the lovelly (not) purple and charcoal Daniel Lightfoot thingy with rope lasso and all. And yes I too remember the purple apron - lovely just lovely. As for the new QF number - well... I have just recieved it tonight as it has been lost somewhere in Aus for the last two weeks. Some interesting outcomes after being fitted twice!! Pants 2 foot too long - I am a shortie. Shirts have arrived with extra long sleeves. Jacket sleeves too short and serving jacket too long. Cant figure it out myself. Anyway not too worry, the dressmakers and clothing alterations companies are doing a roaring trade at the moment. Keep up the good work both of you, and keep that sense of humour. Cheers Sandy.

tight fit

Mr seatback when I meant by getting impotent i meant that the new uniform is quite unforgiving in the crotch area! The pants are tight around the upper legs...I know for a fact!.ref:ditzyboys post! Alot of Morrisseys pieces are like that!

Yes - very unforgiving are those new pants...wouldn't want to get 'excited' then have to stand up - everyone will see what you're made of!

Maybe the whole tight pants issue has to do with he John Travolta thing. Staying alive ...ah ...ah..ah...ah...STAYING ALIVE!

And we all know how much of a turn on "those" tight pants were!

Looks like you boys wil have to "walk the walk"! Hips, buttocks, and private parts swayin to and fro!

Could be worse though-imagine having to wear those Achey breaky heart, Tamworth line dancing jeans like REX do. Ewwww, no thanks!

Okay, I'm just a nosy DAL f.a., but you guys are hilarious. Could someone give me a brief description of this uniform? Color, pattern, etc. I'm wearing corpse grey polyester from head to toe, so it couldn't be worse than that, could it??
