Flybe
I've been invited to attend one of their assessment days. What sort of qualities are you looking for in the group sessions? What exactly will I be asked to do duing the group sessions?
If you are a Flybe flight attendant, or you've been to one of their assessment days, any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks. |
Flybe Wannabes & Recruitment
But am a bit unsure when. I don't have a Grade C in maths and here's the dilemma...
Do I apply now without it or do I retake GCSE Maths then apply next summer? Am in 2 minds here. I fit all the other criteria. |
I would apply now. You can always reapply next summer anyway, it won't lessen your chances....on the contrary, it will show your determination.
You've got everything to win, and nothing to loose. I know, they expect you to have a C-grade but as long as the rest of your application is good I wouldn't be surprised if you slip through. And as long as you can do basic math, and manage conversions with a calculator for an assessment day, you'll be fine. Good luck :-) |
I think that as long as you dont have any problems with maths it should be ok.Do you have experience working with money etc ?
|
I think that as long as you have experience dealing with money and are able to do basic maths you should be ok apply anyway and let them know at interview stage
|
I have dealt with money before when I worked at Boots and I also have worked in Restaurants before. I think I am going to apply then if i don't get anywhere I am signed up for a GCSE course starting in September :) thanks for your reply :)
|
maths
I got a C in my GCSE Maths and I have worked for Flybe, BMI and am now at Jet2 with no problems at all, it was never questioned. Go for it!
|
Thanks for your reply Gary. But I said I didn't get a Grade C in maths
|
Just say you did. Nobody ever checks anyway.
|
Don't tell porky pies on your application - easiest way to find yourself at the head of the queue if they ever decide to show folk the door.
My wife joined last year, has no maths qualification, and had no problems at all. You will be given a fairly basic maths assessment as part of the recruitment process, so the company doesn't get too hung up on the qualifications part of things. The requirement is simply used as a filter to help reduce the number of applications to a manageable level at peak times. Your personal qualities are of vastly more interest to the recruitment team than your academic ability. Good luck. :) |
Thank you for your responses :) I am applying :)

Flybe Wannabees & Recruitment
Hello everyone. I applied to FlyBE on Friday. I just wondered if anyone on here has applied recently to them? If so - how long did you have to wait to hear back?
Thanks in advance. |
One of my friends applied about 3 months ago and was contacted within about 4-5 weeks, unfortunately she was unsuccessful at assesment day
|
A word of advice from an "old" hand - don't become cabin crew until filters are fitted or the new bleed air free aircraft arrive. Find out about the contaminated air issue at aerotoxic.org and www.toxicfreeairlines and do not under any circumstances accept a job that involves working on the BAE 146 - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
|
flybe
i have applied to them too a few weeks ago but dont really expect a reponse as wanting to be based in Glasgow and i dont think they have any vacancies at present at that base.
Good luck! |
Oh please surreysue jump back off the band wagon will you.
I flew the 146 for over 5 years. I have no ill health effects. I also flew the Dash 8 for 3 years. I have no ill health effects. I now fly the 195. I still have no ill health effects despite nearly a decade working on aircraft without filters and with bleeds. How do you explain that? How do you explain the fact that thousands of people fly on these aircraft every week and suffer no ill health effects? Take your scaremongering elsewhere. Sorry to jump in on your thread Villagirly85, good luck with your application. |
Well let's hope you'll still be able to say the same in another decades time Chesty Morgan - unfortunately this stuff accumulates in your system. I have managed over 25 years flying but I now have ill health effects that will be with me for the rest of my life - I wish someone had warned me about bleed air! There are hundreds of pilots and cabin crew ill all over the world - how do YOU account for that?
|
Or you could kill yourself by smoking and drinking (many hundreds of thousands more crews who do this on a regular basis, but I have yet to see the old and wise council against it), or even walk outside and get hit by a bus.
Life's a bitch, but you take your chances and just get on with it. I wonder how much you shorten your life by when you spend it stressed and angry? Hmmm......:hmm: |
But the point is people have a choice whether they smoke or drink. I think people wanting to be Cabin Crew should be told of the risks to their health so they can make an informed decision about whether they want to do the job so much they are prepared to take that risk. There are many cabin crew now battling cancer and living with the effects of breathing in contaminated air who wish someone had told them about the risks before they joined.
|
First time I have hured about this. Has it effected you?
Tom W |
Yes I have had 12 years of ill health and loads and loads of my friends are affected too. I know it's an exciting job to apply for and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but the young lady who started this thread is only 22, 2 years older than my daughter, and I hate to think of her wrecking her health so young. The Government is beginning Air Quality tests in sept the main 2 aircraft being looked at are the 757 and BAE 146 because of the number of reports of ill health after flying on these aircraft. There is loads of info available on the internet, have a look at www.aerotoxic.org and www.aopis.org .I personally know several pilots who have brain damage from flying on these aircraft.
|
Sue, and the rest of you,
The main problem with 146 air quality was that folk used to "burn off" the oil accumulated in the APU through seal leakage overnight, and the old practice of letting the ducts get hot first thing led to a lot of problems. This practice was weeded out a long time ago, and every 146 jockey I know spends more time looking at duct temps than his wallet. Keeping them under 40' stops the problem and I also not running both packs on the APU makes a lot of differnece as the poor thing isn't running itself to death that way either. The Q400 has HEPA filters in the recirc, and a very good record on air quality, the 146 is about to be phased out, RIP bless it, and the 195 is pretty much state of the art now, so any problems that did exist are unlikely to resurface. I can't speak of the 757 cause I know nothing about it, except never sit in 17A if you can help it, but as far as Flybe goes, then except for scaremongerers and agitators, the problem has long gone. I had 6 years on the 146 with no problems BTW. Come on in, if you do want to fly, then at least do it with a company that is making money! |

Flybe Wannabees & Recruitment
Anyone out there currently working for Flybe as crew? I used to fly as cabin crew for BA but left in 2001. I retrained as a teacher but have hit that good money but no job satisfaction wall :ugh:.......among other career options I am considering going back to flying as a job.
Whats the deal with BE? Its a big jump for me to 'go back' to what I did many years ago but having done a bit of research, BE look like the type of company I would like to work for. However the proof is in what people who really work there think. If anyone can advise on salary (especially what I can expect to take home as a newbie and as I progess), rosters (sectors per day, stability of roster, nightstops etc) and general working conditions (morale, management styles, chances for promotion), please, I would really appreciate your help - either on this thread or you can PM me Thanks in advance :) |
Hey GayFriendly,
I just have to say, I left BA in '99 and I think it was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. I am flying overseas in Canada right now, but would love to be back working on Speedbird! Best of luck to you! |
flybe
Hey all just wondered what they have said about the 6 months contract?
Do you just get let go or is it like a probationary period?? Just wondered if it was mentioned at the interview? |
Just wondering if anyone had heard anything back from FlyBe lately, I applied about 4-5 weeks ago and have still not heard anything.
Cheers |
I am applying for FLYBE aswell . Any help with interview would be greatly appreciated , Are all positions at FLYBE just 6 month temp contracts now ? .
Thanks |
Flybe Cabin Crew Salary
Hi All,
I apologise if this has already been discussed, but what is the starting salary for members of Flybe cabin crew? Cheers CaptainDan |
Hi Dan,
If you are joining the company as a junior CC member, then expect an average take home pay packet somewhere in the region of £1100 per month. That includes flight pay and commission. It does vary by base to some degree, but this should be a fairly accurate ballpark figure. OT |
Flybe 6 Months Contracts
I am on to ask if there are any cabin crew or wannabe cabin crew who have been on an interview for flybe recently for Edinburgh. They are only offering 6 months contract but is there any possibility of the contract being changed to permanent after the 6 months are up?
Any info appreciated |
Summer Employment oportunities
Are Flybe likely to hire Cabin Crew as late as May/June?
|
just applied
hi guys!
I've just applied for my first ever flying job! Got butterflies whilst applying I wont lie! I fit all the criteria but I wont lie - I am a little chubbly. Does anyone know how strict Flybe are on having skinny cabin crew? Don't get me wrong I'm not obese or anything, but I am a little..um...curvy :) (size 12-14 on average in normal store clothes) Can any one help with how strict they are on weight? Thanks! :ok: |
Pilot wannabe
I am a low houred pilot looking for my first job. Unfortunately the current climate see's very rare opportunities for low houred jobs. I just want to fly and get my foot in the door of an airline to show my willingness.
With the flybe contract only 6 months long anyway. (with a view to extension) does anyone else know any pilot wannabe's who are doing cabin crew jobs while waiting on that first flying job? Did you tell them at the interview that you had a pilot licence? Thanks |
