What are my chances to get into Emirates?

Hi all,

I've been wanting to apply for Emirates since my start of the airline career, however, EK needed me to be 21 at time of application so I joined Silk Air instead.

Bad choice to start off in the airline career. So i left after 6months in search of a job which might suit me better, I love travelling but because Silk Air didn’t give me that (besides travelling up and down the aisle and to and fro home and Changi Airport, Yes i'm from singapore) I didn't see a reason for me to stay.

I have been working here at a Law firm as a secretary for a month now and damn it's boring as hell. I miss flying, and the fat pay-checks. But I was just wondering what are my chances to be asked over to Dubai if I apply 2 yrs later (That's when I turn 21)

I love their uniforms frankly more than SQ's. And I seriously hope the culture there is better than what i've experienced in Silk Air.

Look forward to honest replies!

Cheers,

Rachel

@ TheDonny

You don't have to apply online for an OD, you can just show up there with your resume in hand. That's what you should do.

Latest inside word on Emirates is they will be doing a freeze on training groups and may reduce the number of male crew being trained in the short term. If anyone has been put on hold or been waiting a while for a response from EK, please post.

Looper86 13th Jun 2012 09:07

I recieved this mail just this morning from Emirates.

"With reference to your application and recent interview for the position of Cabin Crew; regrettably we need to inform you that due to fully booked training courses and specific operational requirements, we are unable to proceed with your formal offer of employment at this point of time. Therefore, we will place your file temporarily on hold for three months.
We will keep you posted in due course. Please update us if your contact and personal details change from that given in the application.
Wishing you every success with your future endeavours.
Kind Regards,
Cabin Crew Recruitment
Emirates Airline"

Bit disappointing, but does it mean i am still in the waiting game to eventually get a GC or what does it all mean?

skrupellos 13th Jun 2012 09:17

This is not new information. Why else do you think they have been putting all males and from today women too on hold? They are having issues right now, maybe it's the 380 fleet, maybe too many cabin crews hired already.
I think we just have to let go.

Flybee,

You're aware you'd have to live in Dubai, right?

EK hire CC on a Single Status contract, even if married. Which means that if you are married then your spouse would need to find their own job with a sponsor as EK will not sponsor them (or a child) for residency visa. I do know some crew who have kids and are married however the husband/wife has gotten a job in Dubai and their own visa through their company. (It depends on the company if they would sponsor a child)

If you are a single parent I believe it is possible, but not easy to sponsor a child. You would also not be eligble for any company accommodation for your child as a new joiner CC. You'd have to join then apply for live-out allowance (which is not guaranteed and priority given to SFS/Purser/senior crew) especially if you were unmarried you would need to prove you have a good reason for them to do this. Of course your son could probably not be here while this is in process. If you know people living in Dubai who he could stay with, then it may not be such a big problem. I know of a couple of single mothers working here, who made the decision for their children to stay in home country with grandparents/relatives for schooling. (Be aware you would not receive any schooling allowance, and schools in Dubai can be very expensive)

Hope this helps you decide.

@KuB

Yeah perhaps. I'm just worried I might waste my time since each time I update my profile I keep seeing not shortlisted. I'm taking that to mean my application got rejected. I hope I'm wrong though. I was thinking if my application online was not shortlisted the same thing might happen if I attend an OD and then I'd waste my money if things go wrong

KuB 13th Jun 2012 14:11

@ TheDonny

Well I would say if you want the job real bad you should give it a proper go and attend an OD in person. Being invited after applying online doesn't mean you'll get the job anyways.

I personally believe that CVs just give a rough idea but nothing compares to seeing a person and communicating with this person live. I didn't even bother registering online before my OD and I'm in Dubai now :)

is anyone else working for another airline hoping the experience will help you get into emirates?

Mika87 14th Jun 2012 06:45

Hi Looper86
Hello everyone:)

I have also got this message about frozen account for 3 months.
I don’t know how looks the rejection email like, but maybe someone could tell us on this forum?
The message is not clear and ambiguous, so I think that we can hope that they will contact us in 3-4 months.

Why are they inviting so many people for the OD’s, AC’s and FI’s if they know that they have fully booked training courses? No idea.
One girl on this forum said that the recruiters told them that there is now “ a jam” in the Aviation College and it will be full until September.

It’s very frustrating.

skrupellos 14th Jun 2012 08:34

No no the rejection is completely different, it says that you can re-apply after one year/six moths if you are interested. And the status says NOT SUCCESSFUL.
On hold=most probably in.

latefromparis 14th Jun 2012 08:42

if you look in the news you will see that it is going to take 18months to fix the A380's. i assume this is why everyone is on hold as there are no aircraft to fly! dont hold your breath, go live a little and wait for them to get back to you

flipper316 14th Jun 2012 19:49

so basically malgonika, the people that do all the talking and all the work are the fall guys. while the people that just sat in the back are picked for the final ingterview. seems pretty unfair.

Seja 16th Jun 2012 09:52

On hold because...

Hi guys, I think everybody is on hold now because of the following: the A380 wing cracks issue forced EK to ground a lot of the A380 aircrafts for maintenance, which takes longer than expexted. There were huge interruptions in the operation because the A380 that were grounded couldn't fly their routes, so mainfleet aircrafts (mainly 777) and crew had to cover these routes as well. You can imagine the result: A380 crew do not have enough work and live on a very low salary over months, main fleet crew don't know how to cope with the huge workload. So management decided to train ALL (over 3000 if I am not wrong) A380 cabin crew on the 777 as well to make rostering easier and that is why the training college got to it's limits and will be in the coming months! But dom't worry, aircrafts are still coming in every months, as soon a this training frenzie is over EK will focus again on recruitment and abinitio training

Brisbane open day

Is anyone going to the Brisbane open day next week?

I have applied online a month ago, yest still my status says "applied". I'm not worried just curious if anyone got an invitation yet.

latefromparis 16th Jun 2012 22:38

Just rock up, you don't need to be invited

Madrid Open Day

Hi all.
Is anyone going to the OD in Madrid next June 23?

I have a question about the medical examination. Does anybody know if it will be more restrictive than the one necessary for the class 2 certificate under JAR FCL ? I have this certificate but i dont know how intense are the examinations by the company's doctors.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Malgonika 18th Jun 2012 14:52

@flipper316

Pretty much, yes...
I also thought it was unfair, especially that some people who did the talking really tried to "soothe" the group and, given the time restrictions, tried to make sure we got somewhere with it...
In the end they picked the non-imposing, quiet, background people who would surely not stir up anything (positive or negative, they would just blend into the background)
