Flybe

I've been invited to attend one of their assessment days. What sort of qualities are you looking for in the group sessions? What exactly will I be asked to do duing the group sessions?
If you are a Flybe flight attendant, or you've been to one of their assessment days, any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Flybe Wannabes & Recruitment

But am a bit unsure when. I don't have a Grade C in maths and here's the dilemma...

Do I apply now without it or do I retake GCSE Maths then apply next summer? Am in 2 minds here. I fit all the other criteria.

Dolley 8th Jul 2008 22:43

I would apply now. You can always reapply next summer anyway, it won't lessen your chances....on the contrary, it will show your determination.

You've got everything to win, and nothing to loose.

I know, they expect you to have a C-grade but as long as the rest of your application is good I wouldn't be surprised if you slip through. And as long as you can do basic math, and manage conversions with a calculator for an assessment day, you'll be fine.

Good luck :-)

I think that as long as you dont have any problems with maths it should be ok.Do you have experience working with money etc ?

500 miles 11th Jul 2008 19:58

I think that as long as you have experience dealing with money and are able to do basic maths you should be ok apply anyway and let them know at interview stage

Villagirly85 11th Jul 2008 20:47

I have dealt with money before when I worked at Boots and I also have worked in Restaurants before. I think I am going to apply then if i don't get anywhere I am signed up for a GCSE course starting in September :) thanks for your reply :)

maths

I got a C in my GCSE Maths and I have worked for Flybe, BMI and am now at Jet2 with no problems at all, it was never questioned. Go for it!

Villagirly85 12th Jul 2008 11:18

Thanks for your reply Gary. But I said I didn't get a Grade C in maths

r.s 13th Jul 2008 13:13

Just say you did. Nobody ever checks anyway.

Maude Charlee 22nd Jul 2008 16:18

Don't tell porky pies on your application - easiest way to find yourself at the head of the queue if they ever decide to show folk the door.

My wife joined last year, has no maths qualification, and had no problems at all. You will be given a fairly basic maths assessment as part of the recruitment process, so the company doesn't get too hung up on the qualifications part of things. The requirement is simply used as a filter to help reduce the number of applications to a manageable level at peak times.

Your personal qualities are of vastly more interest to the recruitment team than your academic ability. Good luck. :)

Villagirly85 24th Jul 2008 21:37

Thank you for your responses :) I am applying :)

Flybe Wannabees & Recruitment

Hello everyone. I applied to FlyBE on Friday. I just wondered if anyone on here has applied recently to them? If so - how long did you have to wait to hear back?
Thanks in advance.

steppinout 9th Aug 2008 10:58

One of my friends applied about 3 months ago and was contacted within about 4-5 weeks, unfortunately she was unsuccessful at assesment day

surreysue 9th Aug 2008 19:35

A word of advice from an "old" hand - don't become cabin crew until filters are fitted or the new bleed air free aircraft arrive. Find out about the contaminated air issue at aerotoxic.org and www.toxicfreeairlines and do not under any circumstances accept a job that involves working on the BAE 146 - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

flybe

i have applied to them too a few weeks ago but dont really expect a reponse as wanting to be based in Glasgow and i dont think they have any vacancies at present at that base.

Good luck!

Chesty Morgan 11th Aug 2008 14:49

Oh please surreysue jump back off the band wagon will you.

I flew the 146 for over 5 years. I have no ill health effects. I also flew the Dash 8 for 3 years. I have no ill health effects. I now fly the 195. I still have no ill health effects despite nearly a decade working on aircraft without filters and with bleeds. How do you explain that?

How do you explain the fact that thousands of people fly on these aircraft every week and suffer no ill health effects? Take your scaremongering elsewhere.

Sorry to jump in on your thread Villagirly85, good luck with your application.

surreysue 11th Aug 2008 19:22

Well let's hope you'll still be able to say the same in another decades time Chesty Morgan - unfortunately this stuff accumulates in your system. I have managed over 25 years flying but I now have ill health effects that will be with me for the rest of my life - I wish someone had warned me about bleed air! There are hundreds of pilots and cabin crew ill all over the world - how do YOU account for that?

Maude Charlee 12th Aug 2008 16:11

Or you could kill yourself by smoking and drinking (many hundreds of thousands more crews who do this on a regular basis, but I have yet to see the old and wise council against it), or even walk outside and get hit by a bus.

Life's a bitch, but you take your chances and just get on with it. I wonder how much you shorten your life by when you spend it stressed and angry? Hmmm......:hmm:

surreysue 12th Aug 2008 16:26

But the point is people have a choice whether they smoke or drink. I think people wanting to be Cabin Crew should be told of the risks to their health so they can make an informed decision about whether they want to do the job so much they are prepared to take that risk. There are many cabin crew now battling cancer and living with the effects of breathing in contaminated air who wish someone had told them about the risks before they joined.

First time I have hured about this. Has it effected you?
