Yes I have had 12 years of ill health and loads and loads of my friends are affected too. I know it's an exciting job to apply for and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but the young lady who started this thread is only 22, 2 years older than my daughter, and I hate to think of her wrecking her health so young. The Government is beginning Air Quality tests in sept the main 2 aircraft being looked at are the 757 and BAE 146 because of the number of reports of ill health after flying on these aircraft. There is loads of info available on the internet, have a look at www.aerotoxic.org and www.aopis.org .I personally know several pilots who have brain damage from flying on these aircraft.

The main problem with 146 air quality was that folk used to "burn off" the oil accumulated in the APU through seal leakage overnight, and the old practice of letting the ducts get hot first thing led to a lot of problems. This practice was weeded out a long time ago, and every 146 jockey I know spends more time looking at duct temps than his wallet.

Keeping them under 40' stops the problem and I also not running both packs on the APU makes a lot of differnece as the poor thing isn't running itself to death that way either.

The Q400 has HEPA filters in the recirc, and a very good record on air quality, the 146 is about to be phased out, RIP bless it, and the 195 is pretty much state of the art now, so any problems that did exist are unlikely to resurface.

I can't speak of the 757 cause I know nothing about it, except never sit in 17A if you can help it, but as far as Flybe goes, then except for scaremongerers and agitators, the problem has long gone.

I had 6 years on the 146 with no problems BTW.

Come on in, if you do want to fly, then at least do it with a company that is making money!

Hi guys, I currently work for Flybe, I had my interview on a Monday and they phoned me on the Thursday to tell me I got the job, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. The 4weeks training is hard but fun, and they are a good company, seem pretty steady at the moment. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and good luck!

Anyone out there currently working for Flybe as crew? I used to fly as cabin crew for BA but left in 2001. I retrained as a teacher but have hit that good money but no job satisfaction wall :ugh:.......among other career options I am considering going back to flying as a job.

Whats the deal with BE? Its a big jump for me to 'go back' to what I did many years ago but having done a bit of research, BE look like the type of company I would like to work for. However the proof is in what people who really work there think.

If anyone can advise on salary (especially what I can expect to take home as a newbie and as I progess), rosters (sectors per day, stability of roster, nightstops etc) and general working conditions (morale, management styles, chances for promotion), please, I would really appreciate your help - either on this thread or you can PM me

Hi Dan,

If you are joining the company as a junior CC member, then expect an average take home pay packet somewhere in the region of £1100 per month. That includes flight pay and commission. It does vary by base to some degree, but this should be a fairly accurate ballpark figure.

I am on to ask if there are any cabin crew or wannabe cabin crew who have been on an interview for flybe recently for Edinburgh. They are only offering 6 months contract but is there any possibility of the contract being changed to permanent after the 6 months are up?

I've just applied for my first ever flying job! Got butterflies whilst applying I wont lie!
I fit all the criteria but I wont lie - I am a little chubbly. Does anyone know how strict Flybe are on having skinny cabin crew? Don't get me wrong I'm not obese or anything, but I am a little..um...curvy :) (size 12-14 on average in normal store clothes)

I am a low houred pilot looking for my first job. Unfortunately the current climate see's very rare opportunities for low houred jobs. I just want to fly and get my foot in the door of an airline to show my willingness.
With the flybe contract only 6 months long anyway. (with a view to extension) does anyone else know any pilot wannabe's who are doing cabin crew jobs while waiting on that first flying job? Did you tell them at the interview that you had a pilot licence?
