Movies .. the truth

Hi Everyone, like most fingers crossed of joining the air soon... however I have to laugh at some Dvd's my friends have lent me to show me what life as a cabin crew member is about..

For example.. Mile High..
I never knew that 'Fresh' was a Qantas airline.. and 'Fresh - the Australian Airline' if you look closely at the in flight shots. No of course not Fresh is an imagined airline.. however they have used Qantas's inflight 737 clips and just placed the logo's over the Qantas ones however if you look on engine you will see the flying Kangaroo on it.

Also, I never knew they used 'British Telecom Slim Line Phones' on aircraft. Again NOT.. I know this as I love Keeping up Appearances with Mrs Bucket.. She talks to her sister Violet on it.. you know she is the one with the Mercadies and room for a pony..

In Epposide 6 I think there is reason to press the 'bitch switch' due to a landing gear issues. Firstly if I was called to the flight deck and was advised I was called by the 'Bitch Switch' I would become one ... you know we can't let the captain down.

Anyway you see landing gear of a front single wheel like off the old planes and it lands..when they are met by the fire trucks you see 'Marco' closing the door.. Of a BAC1-11 not a B737

On Marco's first day he nearly deploys the slide... Okay yes can be done but the arming lever for a B737 does not exisit and certainly not a red handle at the top end of the door. B737 you arm the door using a 'Girt Bar' that is inserted into two brackets on the floor of the door sill.

I like to see them coming into land and then the next shot is from a rear engined aircraft...

The cleaner in series two that is a cleaner ... gets into the crew flat and ends up flying.. Yes like that would really happen... I cleaned aircraft but you see me I have to go through recruitment and selection like everyone else.

On Board romance.. maybe I would never date someone that I worked with but that is personal I suppose.

I watch TV shows and movies in two different modes - 1. as a form of entertainment and my second mode is 2. Technical adviser.

I saw a video ages ago about the Gimley Glider - the Air Canada 767 that landed on an abandoned airport strip with no few. It is a true story and compliments to the crew but watching it... Boeing 767 doors look weird and have a large glass panel halfway down. 767 doors lift up into a roof space.. yet during the flight a cabin crew sits down on a jump seat next to a 747 door..... How stupid do they think we are?? I am going through my own collection to pick up the issues and now have a new hobby..

To summarize to us Wannabes... Don't think that life in the sky is similar to these shows... Life is what you make it and enjoy... Make your own decisions and don't take anything as gospel - find out the answers for yourself..

What have you seen as some of the issues?? or is there a question you want to know the answer for??

I too love Mile High! It does annoy me though, because as much as I want to watch it for entertainment I cannot help but pick up on all the errors... My friends however, wouldn't have picked it up in a million years so I suppose it's just us in the industry!!
