I have only just started with BA and enjoying it. However, I am worried that I could become bored with not using the brain much, coming from a writing background etc. I wouldn't do this job for the next 40 years etc..

The job itself I find doesn't require a brain but the people are fab and I enjoy flying. Good luck it is all fun and BA is the best to join.

To Skywatch,

I'm a bit surprised that you're already saying your brain isn't being challenged (especially as you just started).

There are a million things to learn whilst on the job, and I know it isn't rocket science or surgery, but you can find things to challenge yourself. Have you been told about the Quest Learning Centre?

I do a few things in my spare time, that enables me to challenge myself and gives me great life satisfaction. You just have to find whatever works for you. You can still write, you know. On a night stop, on days off, whenever.

Good luck,

Gg

Bored!

Hi Skywatch, Firstly may I inform you 99% of crew coming into the job are not intending to stay for 40years. Most say they just in it for a couple of years, some stay some go. Dont fret at this stage just try to enjoy it. You will find time a plenty to continue your writing while down route in hotel rooms. Good luck!

Wait to start training...

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anybody could let me know how long they had to wait for LGW training?
I got my confirmation letter just on 2mths ago - and still haven't heard back from BA regarding a training date!

I noticed a few people are starting training July 14th (and sent them private messages with no reply ) - how long did you have to wait from confirmation email to getting the call regarding your training?

I noticed also that they extended the cut-off date for applications for LGW - will that affect training dates, do you think?

I'm relocating to the UK from Australia (I fly out 7th June!) - and would be good if I could hear back from them before I go (unlikely, I'm sure - but there's no harm in positive thinking, right? :P) - but if not, if I update my personal details on the application form, will BA call me at my new number, or will they call the old number that was on my file? Should I shoot them an email?

Any help/advice/info would be much appreciated!

I wouldn't stress out too much about waiting for a training date, many of us had to. I think I hold the record which was two years but I doubt if you would have to wait that long.

The fly in the ointment at the moment is the proposed grounding of some of the fleet, including the 737 which is going have an effect on LGW operations. However as the temporary WW crew finish their contracts, their will be some movement from other fleets to WW which in turn will free up some vacancies at LGW. Picture a long train, when the front carriage moves, slowly the other carriages will then start to move.

My advice would be to fly up and get a job to establish yourself in the UK while waiting for BA. Keep your details up to date however with BA being BA, you would do well to call them to check that they have the updated information. At this point you can confirm with them the number they will need to call you on.

Had my assessment last Thursday (22) and I have to say I found the whole thing pretty tough, I don't think I have got it as I see some people have already heard, why do they do this? Why not put those who have not got it out of their misery first?

Should have added congrats to those who have been successful from that day

Hello, currently in the hold pool for Eurofleet Heathrow - looked through the other thread - has anybody been given course dates recently and when were your assessment dates?

Hi everyone,

My friend has had an assessment day in early april this year then received an email stating that she was successfull and that she will receive a starting date within a year.I understand that this is the standard procedure but can it be define as a contract yet or BA can choose not to contact you anymore on the basis of supply/demand rule? i guess knowing what you 'll do next is pretty important to everyone especially if you are relocating like she is from Europe. thanks for your points of view on that matter.

BA response to online application: any ideas?

Hello...I'm new to this forum. I've been thinking about a career change for a long while now..and last Friday evening made the decision to fill in the CC online application. The most recent recruitment drive was for short-haul, out of LHR, I think (don't have the info to hand at the minute).

This question has probably been asked before (I have trawled through this thread - but I must be missing the relevant part each time). Does anyone have a rough idea of how long it takes to hear from BA after an application has been submitted online?

Many thanks,
SP

SleepPixie - it can be as short as 2 to 3 working days depending on the recruitement drive (i.e. sessions available etc).

Good Luck!

Speedmarque is spot on if you get offered a date take it as it is very likely that recruitment will slow down as decisions are presently being made on reducing the number of aircraft operating this winter and laying up a number of 74' and 73'. I have missed a good proramme tonight featuring Mr Leary's present views on the downturn in the industry. It is also possible that the LGW 77 will be switched with LHR 74's upon which far more discounted seats can be offered.

Speedmarque - Is your rumor based on company knowledge, or speculation with regards to WW's statement that BA will be grounding some of the fleet this winter?

I hope I get a training date fast!
