Well girls and boys, you will enjoy your new environment if you make it. Mrs. HotDog and I came back from beautiful Singapore Changi airport to grotty Brisbane International this morning on EY470 Airbus A330. We were sitting in EY cabin which is better than some carrier's Business class. The huge personal video screens and comfortable seating, beautiful cabin crew, good service, good food and complimentary alcohol (I asked for a cognac with my coffee and was served a generous measure of XO!) is hard to beat! I avoid flying Economy as a rule but would not hesitate to fly in EY with Etihad. Cabin crew uniforms are smart business attire, even though a bit plain but the girls look great in them. Wish you luck, enjoy. Cheers, HD.

Eurofleet 01MAY08

I've got an interview for LHR EF on May 1st, Im currently a cabin manager at another airline but after years of consideration and timing I've finally decided to apply to BA, I was a bit casual about it at first but as the interview is getting closer I'm eating, sleeping and breathing BA, I really really want the job and I'm scared that im going to try to hard and be OTT at the interview, any wise words?

Anyone got a rough idea of how long the current waiting list is for training courses at LHR? I dont mind a wait of 6 months or something, but I would really like to be away from my current airline by winter.

Is there anyone out there that commutes to LHR from Scotland or the North that can tell me how they find it? I'm going to commute at first, see how it goes, i know there is bad points and good points to it (its one of the reasons i chose EF rather than WW, i hear EF is easier to commute for)

What are the trips like on EF? i hear there are 3 day ATH, IST and LCA, is there many night stops at EF? i know most destination served from LHR do have a night stop but as they all have an early inbound into LHR for onward connections. but can you get multiple night stops such as LHR-BRU-LHR-AMS, then next day AMS-LHR-BCN, then BCN-LHR-MAN-LHR something like that?

Thanks guys

Flyer 55 Good for crew but surely another loss leader, the last thing anyone wants in October is yet another JFK service.

Channex101 I have posted my roster below so you can see a sample roster.

On Eurofleet we bid for what work you prefer, whether that be earlies, Lates, there and backs, 2 day or 3 day trips, so everyones roster varies as people bid for different things.

You can commute on Eurofleet but it takes a lot of planning and you will need a telephone number for a few B&B's near LHR for times when due to delays or Disruption your Nightstop might be cancelled leaving you stranded in LHR.

I would say it is easier to Commute on Worldwide if you live far away, at the moment Transfers from Eurofleet to Worldwide take roughly around 18 months to 3 years.

DAY 1 LHR CDG SPLIT DUTY
DAY 2 CDG LHR
DAY 3 LHR MUC LHR MAN MANCHESTER NIGHTSTOP
DAY 4 MAN LHR AMS LHR
DAY 5 LHR MXP MILAN NIGHTSTOP
DAY 6 LIN LHR MAN MANCHESTER NIGHTSTOP
DAY 7 MAN LHR CDG LHR
DAY 8 OFF
DAY 9 OFF
DAY 10 LHR BRU LHR BSL BASEL STANDOVER DAY
DAY 11 DAY IN BASEL
DAY 12 BSL LHR GVA LHR
DAY 13 LHR KBP LHR
DAY 14 OFF
DAY 15 OFF
DAY 16 OFF
DAY 17 OFF
DAY 18 OFF
DAY 19 LHR MAN LHR CPH COPENHAGEN NIGHTSTOP
DAY 20 CPH LHR MAN MANCHESTER NIGHTSTOP
DAY 21 MAN LHR ZRH LHR
DAY 22 OFF
DAY 23 OFF
DAY 24 LHR HAM HAMBURG NIGHTSTOP
DAY 25 HAM LHR HAM HAMBURG NIGHTSTOP
DAY 26 HAM LHR
DAY 27 LHR GLA LHR NCE NICE NIGHTSTOP
DAY 28 NCE LHR BCN BARCELONA NIGHTSTOP
DAY 29 BCN LHR EDI LHR
DAY 30 OFF
DAY 31 LHR BEG LHR

My British Airways Story

17/03/08 - Apply online for BA Eurofleet out of LHR
25/03/08 - Invitation to assessment day
01/04/08 - Assessment day
02/04/08 - Notification assessment sucessful
04/04/08 - Phone call offering me Worldwide, start date 19/05/08 After about 10 seconds thought, I turned down due temporary contract
24/04/08 - Phone call offering me Eurofleet start date 21/07/08
21/07/08 - The journey begins.....

So basically, considering the numbers involved, a very quick turnaround. Wish easyJet could give me my SCCM role like this - i've been waiting 18 months so far, and the outlook is bleak. Still their loss....

Devil Accomodation

Hi all ,
just wondering what any of you experienced cc out there think of this idea.
I will be starting soon with Ba at Gatwick on SF and living in essex I was wondering if it would be feasible to try a system of crashing in a camping car in the staff car park on the occasions that I have an early start.Does anyone know if there is a height restriction to get into the car park or a size restriction. For later starts ,driving up would not be a problem as it takes roughly 1 hour.Just thought this may be a cool way of saving on hotel or room rental for early starts.
PS I am assuming that there are wash/shower facilities at the BA center?
Thanks for youre viewpoints

Can't see security at Gatwick allowing it ! Have never heard of anyone else doing this....you can stay in the YOTEL in Gatwick South terminal for £25 for four hours and then £5 for every hour after (Think that's the price but don't quote me) or you can use the quiet room in Jubilee house.

tomkins,

It has been done before at LGW but it is very much frowned upon if the car park security guys catch on. They will stop you doing it and I don't know what powers they have regarding removal of ID's etc. I have to agree with brightonflyer and say you're better of getting a room in a B&B or local hotel. There are also many people, including crew, in the area that offer rooms on a daily rate for standbys etc. If, however, you do decide to risk it, don't do what one person from another airline did and start cooking your bacon and eggs on a bbq for your breakfast!

Don't camp in the car park - the facilities in Jubilee mad house are far from ideal and If they catch you you may lose your I.D...remember no I.D no job.
Also...due to fire regulations no overnight stays are allowed in the quite room of JH. Get to a B+B they aren't expensive.
I don't see why you even need to do this from Essex...people commute from much further without going gypsy style!

Oh and no they temps CANNOT be kept permanent on the WW fleet.
It is against union regulations and seeing as they have only just agreed to meet our demands on the 26 outstanding points of contention they are not going to aggravate thousands of crew.

WW Temp

Vodkaholic, I am on EF permanent and I also heard that rumour re the WW temps being kept on. But its not going to go down very well with EF people waiting to be transferred to WW. It will be also be against the union agreement. Lets see what happens.

Getting kept on!

Please........the WW temps WILL NOT be kept on WW. It just will not happen under any circumstances so stop winding each other up with futile rumours.

You MAY be kept on, but at LGW, although I hear from being in Cranebank as a trainer that this is not on the cards at the moment.

Trust me, WW is not an option permenently for you temp ladies and gents and it is unfair to tell you otherwise as you will just be disappointed.

I have no agenda as I dont want WW but there are hundreds of crew waiting to transfer from various fleets to WW and they will not allow queue-jumping!

There is a big issue at the moment about two LGW Managers being transferred direct as PSRs to WW and this is on the list of things to be sorted to avoid a strike so this gives you an idea of how WW temps being kept on WW would go down!

Its not going to happen. Dont listen to futile rumours. Go and talk to the union if you dont believe me!

Happy Flying to all.

I have just finished training and already thre are rumours that temps are being kept on permanently.... Unbelievable, I would never have the audacity to go around saying that I am being kept on and I am a temp.

I wish all temps would just keep quiet because there is no way we are being kept on.

Apologies let me re-phrase that to, we are not being kept on WW permanent, but if we are lucky it will be LGW.

Have a nice day!!!

I wasn't making the post to 'get people's hopes up' so to speak. I just wanted to see if I had made the right decision or not by not going for the WW contract. I also didn't say that I had heard they were being kept on Perm in WW...just that they were being offered a perm contract with BA. Thought I made it quite clear in my post that this was not fact just something I had heard. Bu thanks to all for clearing it up, seems I made the right decision after all.

I'm starting on the Worldwide Temp contract in June.

I currently live in Manchester and was planning on relocating/moving down to London. Does anyone commute (either via train/car etc) to Heathrow from Manchester? Will it be possible on the temp contract or is not worth it?
