There is no chance that there is enough room for both the current structure of lots of small operators, and one or two very large ones in the light jet market. To this end the business plan can only be along one line (as I don't think anyone believes people will move from business class to private jets, not since the early 90's anyway). They must undercut and give better service than the existing operators through the use of their economies of scale, (a tall order). JB and blink have shown a penchant for treating YOUR jobs as retirement jobs for ex-BA guys. So the plan has to be to put existing light jet pilots out of work and replace them with BA retirees.......Ryanair anyone? Tell me if this is good for the bizjet pilot fraternity. |

As I understand it you're confusing JB with other Claret Capital options/intentions. What of the future for Claret? This has involved a return to Slattery’s aircraft leasing roots. He started with Tony Ryan’s GPA before setting up an aircraft leasing company, International Aviation Management Group. He sold that business to Royal Bank of Scotland for €25 million in 2001 and spent three years with the bank building it into a bigger entity. He hopes to leverage those past relationships for the new business. Claret is providing debt advisory services for airlines and lessors. “We have a mandate that we’re working on right now. It’s $200 million, a US private equity firm, to finance aircraft that are delivering in 2010. “That’s keeping a team of about three people occupied.” Slattery is planning to launch his own aircraft leasing business. “We are about 90 days away from launching our own platform,” he said. “We’ll probably build a new team of 20 core executives,” he said. “We’ll have a small team in Hong Kong and in the US.” He said the current weakness in aviation has created a “sweetspot” for the business. He is focusing on 737s and A320s and says there are plenty of airlines in growth mode. “I can see us getting this launched,” he said. |
Someone deleted my post...guess it wasn't helpful but I think it had some standing in this whole debate. I think the only thing we can do is 'watch this space'! No one can say what the future will hold but I don't think there is anything wrong with looking on the bright side...all this doom and gloom is boring!:zzz:
JR an JB are two very different companies, I don't see the point in comparing them. One is fractional the other is adhoc charter. The similarities are that they are/were (JR) new companies breaking into the industry at a pretty rough point in the cycle. If you look at it though, things are looking up and with reference to the recession, I would say JB is in a much better position now than it was this time last year when we were all deep in the nasty stuff! Investors must be realising this and they must believe in the business plan otherwise they wouldn't be investing. You can say what you like but JB is pressing on and training it's Pilots and there is a good mix of them at that...Maybe a few of them are ex airline but so what, they were the ones that applied first and got the job...it may seem a bit funny for them to carry the pax bags at first but they will get used to it. :) There is nothing wrong with expressing 'realistic' views but I think the ones that are, need to stop shooting down anyone with a positive view! I'm one of the optimistic guys! My two pennies! |

If anyone out there is part of these mysterious JB crews who just finished training in the USA, would you please enlighten us and tell us how many planes are flying? Not orders, options, etc. Simply, how many planes....now?

suitcaseman: OK. Trust me, most of us hope everything works out! It is not that we dont have faith but I would simply say that most of us have a better understanding today, of how and why programs such as JB succeed or fail. To be honest, it still doesn't all add up....but hopefully I can be proven incorrect!:)

If that was aimed at me, then I'd ask you to take it back. I am not negative about JB - far from it - I was merely answering someones question.
JB should be a success when it gets off the ground and from what I've seen so far, it will. |
