Bermuda - Isle of Man
I saw a thread yesterday hailing the benefits of the Isle of Man Registry ? Have any of your operations moved from the traditional Bermuda /Caymen to the Isle of Man and is it worth it ?
AZ |
Will IOM implement the same Flight and Duty Time Limitations as the UK?
|
IOM is only for private operations.
|
FTL will apply to all private/GA/corporate operations (aircraft over 5700kgs) when Annex 6 part 2 comes into force in November 2010. And that will include the IOM.
|
IOM "CAA", "Sir can i see your Nigerian ATPL" ? "Sure you can Sir", "Thank you Sir", "here you go", "Go Ahead and place that big M on your tail". Pace |
Forgive my English are you saying the FAA ATP's are inferior than Europeans?
|
The IOM are trying to provide a easy alternative for the GA community when compared to the UK CAA for example. I think they are managing quite well too! :ok:

On a serious note I would heed a big word of caution when considering any dealings with the IOM. It all looks so very attractive now because it's cheap but just wait til things start to go wrong. You will then find that you are dealing with the biggest bunch of lying cheating incompedent shyters you could ever imagine! Just ask anyone of the 11,000 savers that have been given the runaround by the IOM jokers who lost their money in an IOM bank last October. Wriggling, squirming, doing anything to evade their responsibilities. Not the bank, the Government. "Government" is just a joke there. It is a village hall with nepotism running rife! And it's them that will manage your M reg. UTTER F@@KWITS! How much did you lose? Maybe serves you right for trying to get a better rate offshore...........anyway whilst your generalised views about the IOM wont get any comment from me - it must be said that the British Born Big Cheese on the IOM is one of the few gents left in Aviation, He'll happily hand over his mobile number to any one of the 800 odd validated crew members of the 150 aircraft he currently has registered, as one of the first validated crew members on one of the first registered aircraft I can safely say that apart from some minor niggles its the one of the best things we have done and I would reccomend it to anybody from a CJ to an A340. Some highlights amongst others A new RVSM approval on the G or N reg can take up to 6 weeks - IOM 6 hours Crew validations - same day if required Validation of FAA A&P licenses Call me old fashioned but being able to speak to them between the hours of 9am to 5pm is a good thing - the bloody CAA close at 4! Cayman dont get me started |
Forgive my English are you saying the FAA ATP's are inferior than Europeans? Those who know that then use the pathetic excuse that someone holding an inferior licence from a third world country can fly in Europe. Fact is its just an excuse to keep out FAA licenced pilots and other registrations from operating in Europe for self protectionism. My comments were a cynical joke against those who want all foreign reg aircraft removed so that European pilots can get all their jobs :) The reason is as simple as that. Pace |
Put a CJ on the IOM registry last year. Superb service and easy to deal with. Made a change to deal with people who actually wanted to help!
|
Concur with the above. Having made enquiries a year or two ago about changing an aircraft from the 'N' to the 'M' registration, I found the 'IOM' very pleasant to deal with. I also received a mobile phone call from the head of the IOM CAA who chatted to me like an old mate for about 40 minutes! I believe the gentleman in question is ex belgrano. A breath of fresh air indeed!

Benefits of IOM Registry
From the IOM Website
The Isle of Man Aircraft Registry was established to provide a customer focused service for the registration of high quality private and corporate jets and high quality turbine-engine helicopters. Isle of Man registered aircraft cannot be used for Commercial Air Transport. As the only dedicated corporate aircraft register in Europe, the Registry offers high international standards and a competitive scheme of charges. As the Registry has expanded we have increased our staff and moved to larger offices to ensure we maintain our high levels of service. We currently have eleven authorised Airworthiness Surveyors including a Surveyor resident in the USA. The Isle of Man has an international reputation as a tax-efficient, but responsible and co-operative jurisdiction and appears on the OECD ‘white list’ of countries complying with the global standard for tax co-operation and exchange of information. Some other benefits of registering an aircraft in the Isle of Man:

Unreservedly concur with all those who have good things to say about the speed, efficiency and friendliness of the IOM Aviation Registry.
