Electronic Jepp Charts

Does anyone know what systems are out there for electronically presenting Jepp charts. Also any feeback on what they are like to use and how much they cost. N reg and private does not seem to be a problem but has anyone in Europe managed to get one approved for use by the authorities ? Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi there,

We're busy with the same question. We are using an electronic display on a private HB registered airplane. The hardware is "home-built" and in the process of certification, so not available yet...

The best "ready-to-use" system i've heard of is a US company selling the Jeppview/Flightdeck programs on the new Fujitsu pen tablet (10.4 inch display i believe, really neat...). The start-up price is 10'000 USD per side, and the yearly fee for the software is slightly more expensive than the paper version, because of the flightdeck software....

The advantage is that beside the jeppview, you have 2 fully workable personal computers, where you can put your company of personal software...

I don't know that anybody in Europe has got this certified for commercial use, though... The most likely people to ask are Jet Aviation and TAG. TAG has such a system certified in the U.S.

On general useability, I can only say that it works very well, and the best proof is that our "older" pilots with the reading glasses and the "too-short-arms" have stopped complaining about it. And the economy of revision time is GREAT!!!

Check the power supply in the cockpit, though... Maximum battery life of these things is about 3 hours, tops. We have a galley power supply in the cockpit, which puts the system on battery in case of power shed, but will make it easier to certify.

The best thing would be a main AC bus supply, split by side... The STC would cost about 20'000 USD in our ship, though...

Hope I could help a little...
