American reg AC

What are the rules regarding flying an american registered aircraft on a JAA licence for hire or reward.

My guess is you need an american CPL, and if you want to fly IFR, an IR rating as well.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

You can fly an N registered aircraft on your JAA license but in the Uk only and not in airspace that requires compliance with IFR. The exact wording from the Lashors? book starts with In the Uk so it is assumed that it is UK flying only.

If you are flying for hire and reward in the UK you will need a permit from the Department of Transport under article 113 of the Air Navigation Order. The permit requires compliance with ICAO standards, ie the licence must be issued or validated by the state of registry - the US in this case.

You will also need to be operating under an AOC (sorry for stating the obvious but US and UK requirements appear to be different at the lower end of public transport operations and this has led to confusion in my experience).

Read my post of today, but having just been embroiled in just this it is clear from both the UK CAA and more impotantly the Dept of Justice legal dept they will only allow International operations with a stand alone US licence, however you can fly around the UK on your UK licence but ONLY around the UK.
