Our non-profit was given a GII
Our non-profit was just given a GII, serial# 326 with tip tanks, and now we are trying to find out what to do with it. I have read the posts from the 2009 and 2010 era about the good, the bad and the ugly of the GIIs. This GII has 2001 hours since engine overhauls and the gear and the tail were done in the past 22 months, but the engine overhauls were done in 1998. Somewhere we saw something about 10 year engine mid-life inspections--is that true?
We would like to sell the plane as is so we can finance the purchase of a Van's RV12 so the local high school can have a project for their aviation classes. While the RV-12 kit cost around $60K, we suspect the GII can bring in more then $60K.The radios were updated 13 years ago to Collins digital with 4 screen DPUs and 1 MPU. It has 3 Universal FMSs, an Airshow from the 90s and the AVS 300 camera system which is old but functional. It has 10 seats with no divan with excellent upholstery done in 1997. All the logs and reports from 1979 to present along with all the radiographic plates. As far as we can tell, it was not on an engine maintenance system.
We were thinking in the $150K to $200K region, but who knows. I see 3 GIIs on the open market from $185K to $290K. We suspect the plane would need a ferry permit as it has not flown in 11 months, but the engines and APU have been run monthly. 3500 gallons of fuel remain in the tanks.
Anybody have any insight on how to approach a sale? Know any interested parties?
Thank you. Desert Flyer

I suggest you also post this enquiry on Vans Air Force forum (VAF).
VAF Forums
So long as you include the reference something RV aircraft related (ie you wanting to finance an RV-12) they will accept the post.
The reason for posting there as well as here is they have a wide audience of many different people reading the forum, including corporate pilots and maintenace people (as does PPRUNE), but VAF reaches a particularly North American audience.

It's a boat anchor.
Can you give the donation back?
Brokers will laugh.
Norm Hill is worth a call, but I bet they will want you to pay for transporting it to them.
Ferry Permit flight if possible or flatbed semi.
eBay is a possibility.
Maybe someone locally looking to turn it into a lake home.
Or, be ready for it, a cash buyer who will depart single-pilot after dark and fly south.
Please let us know the results.
I would love to hear that you made a sweet deal and the H.S. kids will be getting the RV project!

Yes, there is a 10 year calendar requirement on the Spey and Tay engines.
Norm Hill is a good guy, he knows those engines. He may also buy the APU and other major parts. It might be a good exercise for a local A&P school to take the airplane apart and ship him the parts.
