ETOPS on heavier business jets
As I understand the rules, at least in JAR/EASA land, a commercial operator may fly up to 120 min away from an airport with business jets, up to a MTOW of 100.000 lbs. With the option to make it 180 minutes.
Above that it's 60 minutes, everything further requires ETOPS approval.
Till some years ago all business jets except the airliner-derieved ones (BBJ, ACJ) were below 100.000 lbs so this wasn't an issue. But now that the lastest Global (7000/8000) models grew past that threshold, I wonder how that is dealt with?
For a private operator it wouldn't matter, but in most countries getting ETOPS past 90 minutes is not an easy process, even for airlines.
