no passport and travel

Hi

I just submitted my passport to the USA Embassy to have a C1-D Visa added so while I have a valid passport I don't have it in my possession now till probably friday next week.
I have been offered a flight to Malaga early this week.
Is there any way in going without my passport in my possession?

Yes, if you have your ID card.

I got a second uk passport issued within a couple of days based on a photocopy of my first one and without even being in the uk, as I was travelling on my original passport. I did hear that had become harder now, but try calling visa world in nw7, that is who I used.

Always useful to have at least 2 passports for this eventuality (especially if you separate your Russian / middle-east stamps & visas from your US/Israel ones)

All you need is a letter from your employer stating you are crew and you need an additional passport.

slightly off the point but when I got my second passport the bloke behind the desk made a very useful suggestion. My name is Thomas but I am known as Tom and he put that in the additional information bit at the end of the passport and it means that if my company can book me as either Tom or Thomas (a colleague who has the same name in a previous company was refused by Easyjet because the ticket was in the name of Tom)..

there you go - pointless post of the week award goes to me!

Even more off topic but Thomas' post reminded me of this sketch.

How to get 2 UK Passports

I've held 2 valid UK passports for years, and for exactly this scenario.

The difficulty you're going to face here is that you are not in possession of your existing passport; and one of the requirements is that the authority have sight of it to enable issuance of an additional [rather than replacement] passport in order to prevent fraud.

There might be a way around this and consulting with the helpline or some kind of UK immigration specialist is obviously going to help here, however the normal process is:

- Make an appointment: You should be able to get an emergency issuance in this case

- Fill in a normal application, as if it was an initial issue

- Obtain a letter from your employer explaining the requirement for 2 valid passports and the urgency of the requirement. If you are self-employed, this is still a requirement but some lateral thinking is acceptable here.

- Present the application, letter and current passport at the appointment.
