King Air crash north Iceland

Hi there.

According to link, this happened monday afternoon.
Iceland Review Online: Daily News from Iceland, Current Affairs, Business, Politics, Sports, Culture

Sad and unfortunate.

Its been quote a while since i've last been to Akureyri, but as far as i remember, it is an extremely challenging airport to operate into even in good weather, probably even with an empty King Air.

Does anyone have any further info?

/FS

ASN report below. Can't imagine what other information you would require after such a comprehensive newspaper report apart from names of the deceased.

ASN Aircraft accident Beechcraft B200 Super King Air TF-MYX Akureyri Airport (AEY)

Sadly it appears to be a low pass over a race track gone horribly wrong.

At impact the Aircraft "cartwheeled" 180° in 0.56 sec. and both wings were separated from the fuselage. The second impact was backwards at about which time the nose-section broke from the rear fuselage. The various Aircraft parts then skidded approx 350 mts.

in nearly 25 years of aviation, i never manage to land in BIAR. The weather was always bad, and the offset localiser approach with rabbit light in a fjord, led me to treat this airfield with a lot of precaution. Just to say i prefer BGBW ( that says it all i think, at least to my standards).
This is a tricky place, and even in the summer weather ( august 5th) turning inside the fjord is not an easy playground.

RIP

The aircraft was clean i.e. not setup to land so looks like a flypast which went badly wrong! Maybe he was hoping to fly a tight low level circuit to land!

Very sad that two people lost their lives

I was there on a beautiful warm day in July, in fact used one of my photos on the 'Where on Earth' thread, and remember thinking what a tough place it must be too land specially under the extreme conditions that so often prevail in Iceland.

BIAR

Been there several times. Lovely small city, friendly people and close to the volcanic areas that are quite fascinating.

In wind, it is turbulent as expected, but the approach is not tricky if you follow it. Request it on your next sim session instead of Chambery. (If it is in sim database, donīt know.)

Of the times I have been there, the weather has been far better than BIRK, and if you follow the weather for Iceland, you will find that it is clear more than the SW coast.

Flew in to Akureyri as flight mech on a Tristar - second wide body to land there. How we ended up with hot brakes on a frozen runway I still have not worked out.Had spectacular view of the Aurora Borealis from cruise altitude.

Was this the landing when Mr. Johannesson touched down outside the Airportīs fence in the Tristar?

Yet another idiotic stunt caught on camera.

When I saw this video it reminded me of the Iceland King Air accident. Looks like a nearly identical stunt.....

This New Thread should probably be merged with the original.
