Ian Cooper, former bizjet Captain

I regret to inform you of the death aged 70 of Ian Cooper, from prostate cancer.

Ian was an RAF fitter who then joined The Edinburgh Flying Club, teaching others to fly to gain enough hours for his CPL.

He left Edinburgh in the mid 70s for Africa, where he worked for The Flying Doctor Service for a couple of years, then an air charter company called 'Joint Air' flying Learjets for executive hire.

In latter years he worked for Gama Aviation out of Heathrow and Heathrow Jet Charter.

He flew G4 and BBJ amongst others.

The funeral is at 13.00 Monday 28th November 2011

St Edmond Campion R/C Church
2 Watcombe Road

I'm sad to hear about about Ian I knew him well from my days at Hatfield and Heathrow. I well remember as a young engineer at Hatfield my ride in a Lear 35 from where I was asked by Ian to come along and take down the figures (CAA Flight Test) from the flight - Quite interesting! We did meet up occasionally after and he always remembered me and stopped to talk.

Sorry to hear about Ian. Flew with him on the GIV a few times. A real gentlemen and a humble man! My condolences to his family.

King Lear, as he was known to me, was a true mentor. I am now saddened not to have made the time to fully repay that debt. Ian flew for an eclectic array of owners/operators but a GAMA Aviation owned by Mr Al Fayed belongs to a parallel universe. One that would worry him greatly.

Gama Aviation, owned and run by Marwan Khalek. Just to put things straight!

Ian was a gentleman and a very talented pilot, my condolences to his family, he was a fantastic pilot and a great bloke to fly with as well as a lovely guy to have a few G&T's with.

Enjoy the Egyptian PT old friend I'll miss you.

Oh, that's sad news indeed. I used to flight mech for him on the G4 and the BBJ. A lovely bloke, good pilot and most of all, a decent human being. Will miss him.

Mike.

Have only just learned of Ian's demise and would like to endorse all above and add my condolences to his family. I flew with Ian on the 35 for several years at HJC and had many great experiences and have very fond memories of him.

Big loss to us all.
