A Sign Of The Times
Today one of the larger corporate jet users in Australia advertised for a chief pilot and a captain. This rather surprised me as I would have thought that at the level they operate at they would not have needed to advertise these vacancies but rather fill them from their hold file or via a specialist recruitment firm.
It also got me thinking and wondering whether this is an indication that there is a growing shortage of pilots with the experience necessary to fill these positions or whether there is something else going on. Any thoughts?

Maybe rather than a shortage of pilots, they are casting the net wide to see who or what is out there before using any holding pool or specialist recruiters. I guess they are just playing the field and not 'marrying the first girl that they kiss' Looking at the thread at the top of the page says more to me about what the real state of play is, although perhaps not the case in Aus.

More than likely the company already have the vacancy filled; the advert is probably just the company complying with a fair recruitment policy; this is a common procedure with larger corporations and shows that they have made every effort to recruit the best candidate, not just the boss's mate (who will inevitably get the job!).

That's probably right. Even if there was a huge shortage, they just keep lowering the bar...the FAA here had to bump it to 1500 hrs for new airline hires...you should have heard them scream. Like 1500 hours is anything remotely qualified to pilot an airliner.
