Basing a N- registered aircraft in Europe
Our owner just informed us he may want to spend a month in Europe next summer. Very few details but looking at basing the airplane in one of the coastal Mediterranean countries such as Spain, France or Italy. Anyone with pros and cons for each country? Heard to stay away from Italy and France due to higher fuel taxes and overall costs. Thanks for any additional info.

regarding south France (Nice/Cannes/St-Tropez area) i would avoid Cannes/LFMD (slots) Nice/LFMN (fuel shortage, parking limitations) Toulon/LFTH (expensive airport handling charges) and go to Le Castellet/LFMQ (business aircraft dedicated airport, hangar space available, discreet team).

Not many general aviation friendly airport in Italy. If necessary I would consider Milan (LIML), Venice (LIPZ) and Olbia (LIEO), slightly above average service. Steep prices though.
Much better handlings in Spain (a lot of competition usually), only if you manage to survive the local ATC of corse.
Ibiza and Palma can be very busy, Barcellona (LEBL) can be a pain slot wise... maybe some small other airports on spanish coast?

GA Friendly Italy
I have actually always found Italian flying quite accomodating.
I dont have vast experience over there but certainly Brindisi
was a very good stop ( No Avgas though )
If you want to go to Rome, then Roma's Urbe is a military / Civilian
airport and they will happily take you. Elba is a lovely little stop.
Bari also, again no avgas listed but there is a flying club there
and if you contact them, they can arrange to fill you up for sure.
Napoli is mandatory handling but quote reasonable when compared to
some other European stops and Salerno is just around the corner
if you dont need a port of entry at that point, then Salerno is a much
cheaper option.
Hope that helps.
