JAA licence transfer inside EASA countries

I have a French issued JAA CPL and I would like my licence to be managed from another JAA country.
Does anyone know about the way to proceed ?
Did somebody ever done it before ?
Who do I have to contact first : the French CAA (DGAC) or the foreign JAA CAA ?

Thanks for precise answers.

It should be pretty easy.
Apply to the intended new country's CAA for a change of state of issue and they shall treat directly with your actual French CAA.
The swiss FOCA and the UK CAA people are generally quite efficient.

Good luck!

Bear in mind that you need to meet the requirements of JAR-FCL1.065(d), which states that you may change your State of Licence issue only "provided that employment or normal residency is established in that State" i.e. you must either be employed in the new State of Licence Issue or be resident there for at least 185 days in each calendar year.

To answer your initial question: you need to contact the National Aviation Authority of the country you wish you transfer state to, they will contact the french DGAC informing them about your request. All should happen fairly smoothly

I thought you knew it all already Mister Mustang

What a load of rubbish this JAA has turned out to be. It is like saying an FAA license holder from Florida has to check in with the FAA in NY state if he is going to be based there.

This is a perfect illustration the EU will never function as a cohesive unit in a time of crisis

With the advent of EASA Licenses things should become closer to the US reality, one should no longer need to perform state of issuance transfers.

The "EU Aviation Authority" is a work in constant progress, you can't possibly compare that with the FAA at this stage, perhaps in a couple of decades?

EASA & JAR should have been still-born.

Bring back the old, tried "n" tested UK way!

PPL - BCPL - ATPL Exams - PTUG with LOFT = Baby FO. And it worked.

Hi all,

Referring to post #3, is this still the case? I hold a Spanish National "JAA" licence and need to convert to a UK issued licence. I've read through the CAA website and seen the procedure to obtain an EASA part-FCL licence. Would the condition of employment still be needed?

Cheers.
