How to convert a JAR licence to a FAA licence.
Hello everybody,
An important question for me. I had a job offer and later it turned out that I need a FAA licence. I have a JAR licence at the moment and I am very much interested in flying for this company, so at the moment I am trying to find out how to convert my JAR licence into a FAA licence.
Does anybody have any experience with this or know how this works. Do I have to do theoretical exams and\or maybe flying exams?
Some additional information, my JAR licence is issued by The Netherlands. I am saying this because every country has their own specific rules.
Anyway, I hope anybody has an answer. I already sent the Dutch authorities an email with this question, but it always takes a while.
Hope to get breplies quickly since the is a deadline.
Regards,
Rigid

JAA to FAA
There is no quick way of converting your JAA license to FAA, if you meet the requirement for CPL or ATP see the link.
All the information you require can be read in the FAR-AIM.
There is the theory test and a flight test, oh and an FAA medical, plus if you do not have a FAA license then the will want to validate you JAA license to ensure it is current.
Airmen Certification
to jump straight to completing an FAA license the FAA want to know that you already have the JAA license so see this link
Airmen Certification: Verify the Authenticity of a Foreign License, Rating, or Medical Certification
The UK authority takes between 2 and 4 weeks to complete the verification process and you can not do the check ride until you have this in you hand.
The examiner will ask for it prior to the ride, allong with the wriitten CPL or ATP proff which you receive when you complete either one.
Dauntless aviation has a very good site for FAA test prep courses.
I hope this explains the situation.
